Lady Cat Volleyball Wins in Four Sets Mar 12, 2021 Emily Aldridge The College of the Ozarks Lady Bobcat Volleyball team had to overcome a slow start Friday night as they opened the Lincoln Christian Classic. Facing Crowley’s Ridge College in the opening match of the weekend for the Lady Cats, momentum was on the side of the Pioneers from the start. While the first set went back and forth, and was close all the way through, the Lady Cats could not overcome the slow start and the Pioneers took set one 25-23. The next two sets were all Lady Bobcats as they jumped out to early leads in both, and would not look back. With great communication and solid play at the net, the Lady Cats ran away with set two 25-13 and the third set 25-8. Crowley’s Ridge stepped up in the fourth set and led 6-1 early. The Lady Cats chipped away at the lead and soon tied it at seven. Another offensive run would put the Lady Cats on top and they began to pull away as the set continued. Crowley’s Ridge made an effort to come back but the play of the Lady Cats was too strong and the final score was 25-19. The Lady cats took the fourth set and won the match 3-1. Coach Stacy Muckenthaler commented, “The slow start was a challenge to overcome but our team did a great job bouncing back after the first set. Once we got the momentum going our way, we took control of the next three set and finished strong. Morgan (Austin), Amelia (Whatley) and Emily (Aldridge) stepped up tonight and performed well. It was an all-around team effort tonight.” Ryley Thixton paced the Lady Cats with 12 kills and 29 digs. Emily Aldridge had 43 assists. Amelia Whatley chipped in 14 kills, while Morgan Austin added 11 and Abi Menzies 8. Mica Chadwell contributed four aces and 25 digs to the winning effort. The Lady Cats will resume action tomorrow morning as they take on Lincoln Christian at 11am and Cottey College at 1 pm.
