McPHERSON, Kan. — College of the Ozarks used a dominant run through the middle quarters and standout performances from Logan Jones and Keara Mattingley to power past Central Christian College, 92-56, on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Cats led just 21-18 after the opening quarter before taking control with a decisive surge in the second. After Central Christian’s Madyson George tied the game at 21-21 with an early 3-pointer, the Lady Cats answered with a 14-0 run, capped by a triple from Ashlen Garrett that pushed the lead to 32-21. The Lady Cats outscored the Tigers 26-15 in the second quarter and 19-12 in the third, turning a tight contest into a comfortable 66-45 advantage heading into the final period.
Jones led all scorers with 27 points on 11-of-21 shooting, including five 3-pointers, while adding five rebounds and three assists. Mattingley dominated inside and at the free-throw line, finishing with 26 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. She went a perfect 10-for-10 from the line and shot 8-of-13 from the field, helping the Lady Cats steadily extend the margin throughout the afternoon.
The Lady Cats showcased impressive offensive balance and efficiency, shooting 48.6% from the floor (34-of-70) and 47.8% from beyond the arc (11-of-23), while converting 76.5% at the free-throw line (13-of-17). Garrett added 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting with two 3-pointers, and Savannah Ketchum delivered a strong interior presence off the bench with 11 points and 10 rebounds, including six offensive boards. The Lady Cats finished with a 47-39 rebounding edge and received 23 points from their bench.
Defensively, the Lady Cats limited Central Christian to 29.0% shooting overall (18-of-62) and 25.6% from 3-point range (10-of-39). College of the Ozarks forced 18 turnovers while committing 14 and collected 12 steals to disrupt the Tigers’ offense. Central Christian’s Kylee Jones opened the game with a 3-pointer and led her team with 11 points, four rebounds and two assists, but the Tigers struggled to generate consistent offense against the Lady Cats’ defensive pressure and rebounding.
The Lady Cats continued to pull away in the fourth quarter, outscoring Central Christian 26-11 over the final 10 minutes. Logan Jones knocked down another 3-pointer with 7:48 remaining to make it 73-49, and late triples from the Lady Cats — including one from Zoe Hinze — pushed the advantage to 92-54 in the closing minutes before Central Christian added a late basket.
The Lady Cats showcased efficient perimeter shooting, strong interior play and balanced production centered around their standout duo of Logan Jones and Keara Mattingley. The performance gives College of the Ozarks valuable momentum heading into the final stretch of the season.
The Lady Cats will look to carry that offensive rhythm and defensive intensity forward as they close out conference play at home next Thursday night and Saturday afternoon before shifting their focus to the SAC Tournament.
