Point Lookout, MO - In another battle between Sooner Athletic Conference foes on Saturday, the College of the Ozarks Lady Cats secured a 3-1 win over the Wayland Baptist University Pioneers.. The win bumps the Lady Cats'  record to 7-0 and 2-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

The Lady Cats used their momentum from a 3-0 sweep over Oklahoma Panhandle State University the night before and came out strong, for a decisive 25-12 opening set win. The second set was more closely contested, but the Lady Cats managed to hold off the Pioneers, winning 25-23. The Pioneers rallied in the third set, to get a win over the Lady Cats 25-18, but determination and grit prevailed in the final set as the Lady Cats battled their way to a 30-28 victory.

Key players for Lady Cats included Cora Roweton, who led with 15 kills, closely followed by Bri Linehan with 14 kills. Freshman, Anna Brunner was a force once again at the net with 5 blocks. The defensive effort was backed by Gabby Bozzay, pulling out 14 digs and Anna Howe contributed 3 service aces.

Coach Muckenthaler stated, "Our offensive consistency helped us through some tight spots today and we made some key plays defensively to hold on for the win. Wayland is a talented team and this a good win for us in the young conference season. We have to continue to grow and mature as we try to eliminate mistakes and build toward the heart of our season. We will be battle tested over the next few weeks as we hit the road and the challenge will be to maintain our composure and keep building on the positives."

Looking forward, the Lady Cats will travel to Langston, Oklahoma, to face Langston University on September 12, and Central Christian College of Kansas in McPherson, Kansas on Saturday the 13th.
