College of the Ozarks vs Central Christian College – Game 1
POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. — College of the Ozarks rode a dominant one-hit complete game from Brody Baumann and a walk-off home run from Chase Robertson to edge Central Christian (Kan.) 2-1 in a seven-inning contest Friday afternoon at Coach Bob Smith Field.
With the game tied 1-1 and one out in the bottom of the seventh, Robertson delivered the decisive blow, driving a solo shot to give the Bobcats their first and only lead of the day. The blast capped a tense pitchers’ duel and sent College of the Ozarks off with a walk-off win.
Baumann was the story on the mound, tossing all 7.0 innings while allowing just one hit and one run with four strikeouts and three walks. The right-hander faced pressure early but settled in after the third inning, retiring Central Christian without a hit over the final four frames to secure the victory. Baumann’s efficiency and ability to limit traffic kept the Bobcats within striking distance until the offense could break through.
Central Christian struck first in the top of the third. After Kevin Dorsey doubled and later reached third, Derex Cancel grounded out to first to bring Dorsey home and push the Tigers ahead 1-0. That would be the lone RBI and the only hit of the game for Central Christian, which finished with one run on one hit but drew three walks and stole three bases.
College of the Ozarks answered immediately in the bottom of the third. Baumann helped his own cause by launching a solo home run to left, tying the game at 1-1. The two-way performance was pivotal, as Baumann finished 1-for-3 at the plate with the homer, a run scored and an RBI, while also handcuffing Central Christian’s lineup from the mound.
Offensively, the Bobcats out-hit Central Christian 8-1 and applied steady pressure despite leaving five runners on base. Robertson led the way with a 2-for-3 day that included the walk-off home run, one RBI and one run scored. College of the Ozarks also collected a double and two stolen bases, manufacturing opportunities even as Central Christian starter Justin Evasovic limited major damage for most of his outing.
Evasovic took the tough-luck loss for Central Christian, working 6.0 innings and allowing two runs on eight hits with four strikeouts. He kept the Bobcats off the board outside of the two home runs but did not receive enough support from the offense, which stranded four runners and could not solve Baumann after the third inning.
College of the Ozarks finished with two errors but overcame the miscues behind Baumann’s command and timely power at the plate. The Bobcats’ combination of elite starting pitching and clutch late-inning hitting provided an encouraging formula as the team continues its early-season slate at Coach Bob Smith Field.
College of the Ozarks vs Central Christian College – Game 2
A fast start was not enough for College of the Ozarks on Friday afternoon, as Central Christian (Kan.) used a pair of big innings to hand the Bobcats a 7-4 loss in a seven-inning matchup in Point Lookout, Missouri. Central Christian’s decisive blow came in the third inning, when a four-run frame erased a 3-0 Bobcats lead and shifted momentum for good.
The Bobcats appeared in control early behind an efficient offense in the second inning. After College of the Ozarks put pressure on Central Christian starter Nick Julian, Landon Jines delivered the biggest swing of the frame, driving a triple down the right-field line to plate two runs and cap a three-run outburst. Jines finished with two hits and two RBI, including both a double and a triple, helping stake the Bobcats to a 3-0 advantage through two innings.
Central Christian responded immediately in the top of the third, turning the game with a four-run inning against Bobcats starter Cameron Jennings. The key swing came from Braedon Ulrich, who drilled a two-run home run as part of the rally to push Central Christian in front 4-3. Ulrich finished with two hits, two RBI and a run scored to pace the visitors’ offense. Jennings worked 5 1/3 innings for College of the Ozarks, allowing seven runs on eight hits with three strikeouts over 64 pitches and was tagged with the loss.
The game settled briefly after the third, with Jennings and the Bobcats defense keeping Central Christian off the board in the fourth and fifth. However, the Tigers (Central Christian) broke through again in the sixth, adding valuable insurance. Nico Lopez opened the damage with a run-scoring double, and later M. Bowden lined a two-RBI single as Central Christian pushed three more runs across to extend the margin to 7-3. Bowden finished with two hits, two RBI, a walk and a run scored, while Central Christian collected nine hits overall and left only five runners on base.
College of the Ozarks answered in the bottom half of the sixth with a timely swing off the bench. Pinch-hitter Cole Hilton doubled to right-center field to drive in Kyle Beeman and cut the deficit to 7-4, giving the Bobcats a late spark. College of the Ozarks put runners on throughout the contest, drawing three walks and tallying six hits, but stranded seven on base as Central Christian’s pitching staff repeatedly worked out of trouble.
Julian anchored that effort on the mound for Central Christian, earning the win with 6.0 innings of work. The right-hander struck out 10 Bobcats, walked three and allowed four earned runs on six hits over 92 pitches before turning the ball over for the final three outs. Central Christian pitchers combined to strike out 12, matching the Bobcats’ total of 12 strikeouts at the plate, while limiting College of the Ozarks to four runs despite the early second-inning surge.
College of the Ozarks finished with four runs on six hits and one error, while Central Christian totaled seven runs on nine hits and did not commit an error. While the Bobcats showcased extra-base power from Jines and a productive pinch-hit appearance from Hilton, the difference came in run production in key spots, with Central Christian capitalizing on its two big innings. The Bobcats will look to build on their early offensive success and tighten up in the middle innings as they continue their home stretch in Point Lookout.
College of the Ozarks vs Central Christian College – Game 3
College of the Ozarks rode a dominant start from right-hander George Reynolds and a decisive pinch-hit in the sixth inning to a 5-2 win over Central Christian (Kan.) on Saturday afternoon.
Reynolds set the tone on the mound, working eight scoreless innings to stake the Bobcats to a 5-0 lead before Central Christian mounted a brief rally in the ninth. The starter scattered five hits, struck out nine and did not allow an earned run, earning the victory in front of 175 fans. He left after eight innings with a comfortable cushion built largely on opportunistic Bobcat offense that capitalized on three Tiger errors.
The Bobcats broke through in the second inning when Craig Busse jump-started the offense with a double to left. Busse later came around to score when Keegan Stone reached on an error by second baseman Gary Ford, giving the Bobcats a 1-0 lead despite having just one hit in the frame. In the fourth, more defensive miscues from Central Christian extended the advantage as Lance Strahan reached on an error by the shortstop, allowing Chase Robertson to score and push the lead to 2-0.
The decisive swing came in the bottom of the sixth. Busse again delivered with his second double of the day, moving Robertson to third and forcing Central Christian to navigate traffic with one out. Pinch-hitter Cole Hilton stepped in and lined a single to center, driving in two runs for a pinch-hit, two-RBI single that stretched the margin to 4-0. Both runs were unearned, but Hilton’s timely knock created separation and rewarded the Bobcats’ aggressive use of the bench.
College of the Ozarks added one more insurance run in the eighth. After Robertson reached and advanced, he scored when Strahan grounded into a double play, making it 5-0. While only five Bobcats hits produced five runs, they drew five walks and made each Central Christian mistake costly. Busse led the offense with a 2-for-3 day featuring two doubles, while Hilton’s lone at-bat produced two key RBIs.
Central Christian’s offense showed late life in the ninth against the Bobcats’ bullpen. After finally stringing together baserunners, Ian Szczurosk lined a two-run single to center to cut the deficit to 5-2. Braden Ulrich was a bright spot throughout, going 4-for-4 with a run scored to account for half of the Tigers’ eight hits. The visitors finished with two runs on eight hits but stranded six and were undone by three errors and 10 strikeouts at the plate.
The Bobcats, who played error-free defense, maximized limited contact and leaned on Reynolds’ eight-inning gem to close out the victory. With Reynolds setting the standard on the mound and contributors like Busse and Hilton delivering in key spots, College of the Ozarks established a winning formula built on pitching, defense and timely hitting as the season moves forward.
The Bobcats are scheduled to travel north on Tuesday to face the Evangel Valor in a mid-week doubleheader.
