Lady Cats Grab Big Conference Win

Point Lookout, MO - The College of the Ozarks Lady Cats secured a big win against Nelson University Lions in a pivotal Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball match held on Friday, at Keeter Gym in Point Lookout, MO. The tightly contested match concluded with the Lady Cats overcoming the Lions with a final score of 3-2.

The opening set saw Nelson gaining the upper hand, clinching the set 25-21. The Lady Cats, undeterred, bounced back in the second set, evening the scoreline by winning 25-21. The momentum stayed with the Lady Cats as they dominated the third set with a decisive 25-16 victory. However, the Lions retaliated in the fourth set, leveling the match again with a 25-22 win. The intensity reached its peak in the fifth and final set, with the Lady Cats edging out a close 18-16 win to claim the match.

Key players from College of the Ozarks played vital roles in the team's success. Bri Linehan led the team with an impressive 20 kills, followed by Christa Duffel with 14 kills and 4 blocks, and Cora Roweton contributing 13 kills. Additionally, defensive efforts were strong, with Faith Klindworth making 12 digs, Audrey Riley and Anna Howe each adding 11. Serving was also a strong suit for the Lady Cats, with Anna Howe delivering 4 aces.

"This was a big win, and one that was much needed as we head down the stretch. Nelson is a top team in the conference and the way we battled tonight to secure the win could be a springboard for us." Commented Coach Muckenthaler. "We played hard and showed a lot of grit and perseverance. I am proud of our team for sticking with it until the end and getting the win. Unfortunately we will not have much time to celebrate as the top team in the conference comes in on Saturday."

The match marked a significant win for the Lady Cats, as it was against Nelson University, the number two team in the conference and handed them only their second conference loss of the season. Looking ahead, the Lady Cats host Texas Wesleyan University on Saturday, at Keeter Gym, aiming to build on their current record of 13-7 overall and 8-6 in the conference.
