Brunner/McClure Block
POINT_LOOKOUT, Mo. - College of the Ozarks (15-10) rallied from a 2-1 set deficit and saved six match points to defeat Mid America Christian University (14-11) 3-2 on Thursday, Oct. 29, at Keeter Gym. The Lady Cats won 25-19, 14-25, 22-25, 31-29, 15-11.
Anna Brunner broke a 9-9 tie with a kill to start a four-point run in the opener, then delivered the set-winning kill. In the second set, Anna Howe's ace pulled the Lady Cats within 12-11 before the visitors answered with nine straight points to take control. The Lady Cats fought back from a 19-10 deficit in the third, drawing within 23-21 on Cora Rutledge's kill before falling two points short.
The fourth set turned on repeated escapes. After surrendering a 19-14 lead and falling behind 24-21, the Lady Cats drew even on three consecutive Kalli Noell kills. Noell and Rutledge then combined for a block to lead 25-24. Three more match points followed for the visitors, but a Noell-Audrey Riley block, an opponent attack error and a Riley kill off Kamryn Link's assist kept the match alive. A service error gave the Lady Cats a 30-29 edge, and Faith Klindworth's ace forced the fifth set. The Lady Cats produced 21 kills and hit .277 in the fourth.
Another comeback was needed in the deciding set after the Lady Cats fell behind 8-3. Brinley Watson's kill cut the deficit to 9-8, and they later erased a 10-8 deficit with six consecutive points. Riley served back-to-back aces during that stretch before Watson converted Emma Godwin's assist for a 14-10 lead. Seyi Atolagbe answered with a kill, but McKenna McClure finished Riley's assist to seal the victory.
The Lady Cats return to action at home on Saturday as they take on UNiversity of Science & Arts at 1:00 in Keeter Gymnasium.
