College of the Ozarks men’s and women’s basketball travelled to St. Thomas to play the University of the Virgin Islands. On Tuesday, the Bobcats were defeated by the Buccaneers, 85-77.
Despite the Bobcats shooting a solid 15 for 30 (50%) from the floor in the first half, UVI opened the game hot from the field, shooting 18 for 30 (60%). The effort gave UVI a 45-35 lead going into the break.
For the second half, C of O warmed up from the outside, shooting 5 for 9 (55.6%) from distance. Once again, Brandt Cochran led the way with a game-high 26 points. Cochran shot 8 of 20 from the field, including 4 for 6 from distance. Brandt also dished out a game high 11 assists.
Ayden Stone held down the post, scoring 22 points on 8 of 11 shooting. Guard Klay Barton added 13 points to round out the double-digit scorers for the Bobcats.
Although the Bobcats fought hard to the very end, matching UVI’s effort, shooting, and ball control, the first half lead proved to be too much for the Bobcats. UVI finished the win, 85-77, shooting 30 for 55 (54.5%) from the field. C of O countered at 27 for 57 (47.4%).
Fortunately, C of O will quickly get a chance to redeem themselves, as they return to action tomorrow (Wednesday) for a rematch with UVI.
