The Bobcats picked up two big conference wins on the weekend in the Haskell A.I.I. Classic in Lawrence, Kansas.
The Bobcats, who downed Wilberforce 73-58 in Day One of the Classic, tipped off against Northern New Mexico on Saturday afternoon.
The Bobcats came out shooting and took a 42-31 lead into the locker room at the half. NNMC rallied in the second half to minimize the differential, but the Bobcats held their own to close out the game with a 78-69 victory.
Five Bobcats scored in double-digits for the game. Freshman Andrew Mitchell (Blue Eye) tallied 17 points to lead all players, sinking 5 of 9 from three-point land. Mitchell also hauled in 6 rebounds and went 2-2 from the free-throw line. Ayden Stone posted a double-double, tallying 14 points (7-15 FG) and bringing down 12 rebounds. Stone added three assists and nabbed two steals. Klay Barton & Brandt Cochran contributed 13 points apiece, with Cochran providing eight assists, five rebounds, and one steal, while Barton added four rebounds, three assists, and one steal. Treydon Rackley rounded out the double-figure scoring with 11 points and added two rebounds and one steal.
Today's win pushes the Bobcats’ season record above the .500 mark to 8-7.
Both the men and women will travel to the Virgin Islands this coming week to play another A.I.I. foe, the University of Virgin Islands, on January 7 and 8. A mid-January weekend trip to Lincoln, Illinois will complete the teams' road trips for a while.
The men will return to their home court on January 21 versus Crowley’s Ridge College. The Lady Cats will also return home the same week with a game on January 20 against William Woods University.
