College of the Ozarks Lady Bobcats improved their record to 11-3 on Friday afternoon by defeating Wilberforce University (Ohio) by a score of 78—57 in Day One of the Haskell A.I.I. Classic in Lawrence, Kan.
The Lady Cats came out strong to start the game, scoring 22 points and holding Wilberforce to twelve. The two teams matched up evenly in the second period with 18 points apiece, giving C of O a 10-point advantage to take into the locker room at the half. Returning to the court following the half-time break, the Lady Cats once again made a strong showing at both ends of the court, scoring 20 points and giving up only nine to the Bulldogs to take a 21-point lead at the end of three periods. The final quarter found the two teams each scoring 18 points to close out the game.
The Lady Cats spread their scoring across the board, while shooting 43% (29-69) from the field and 52% (12-23) from beyond the three-point arc. C of O was led by Kyra Hardesty with 17 points (6-12 FG, 3-6 3-pt), Kayley Frank with 11 (4-6 FG, 2-2 3-pt), and Annie Noah with 10 (5-10 FG). All nine players for the Lady Cats scored a minimum of three points.
C of O out-rebounded the Bulldogs 38-26, with Annie Noah leading all players with seven rebounds. Aleksei Smih and Julie Stone both pulled down five rebounds apiece.
The Lady Cats will take the court against Northern New Mexico College on Saturday at noon in Day 2 of the Haskell A.I.I. Classic.
