Lady Cats Place 3rd, Bobcats 4th, & Baumer 3rd in NCCAA Nationals

College of the Ozarks hosted the men’s and women’s 2019 NCCAA Cross Country National Championships on Saturday.  The women’s 5K event was comprised of 11 Division I teams and six Division II teams. The men’s 8K event included 12 Division I teams and six Division II teams. 

 

For NCCAA cross country competition, the Bobcats and Lady Bobcats are considered Division I.  The Lady Bobcats finished in 3rd place, running at team time of 1:41:22. The Bobcats posted a team time of 2:20:06, which placed them 4th..  

 

College of the Ozarks junior runner Samuel Baumer, recently named the Wheeler Award recipient for NCCAA Division I, continued his outstanding season by running a 26:36.04, which ranked him 3rd in the individual competition.  Sophomore Garrett Pierce finished in 27th with a time of 28:07.16, closely followed by Wesley Moore (29th) at 28:15.25.  David Byrd (33rd) and Noah Rutledge (37th) pushed each other throughout the race, finishing at 28:25.91 and 28:41.68 respectively.  Placing 57th in the field of 82 runners, freshman Adin Hiebsch ran a 29:54.39 and sophomore Mason Apperson (61st) came-in at 30:40.95.

 

2019 A.I.I. Conference Runner of the Year Abigayle Money placed a Lady Bobcat-best at 13th, with a time of 20:02.06.  Teammates Hannah Duncan (14th) and Adeline Holder (15th) were right on Money’s heels, running 20:05.90 and 20:08.81 respectively.  Just a pair of runners behind, Beth Marteney placed 18th (20:29.38).  Freshman Janelle Staal ran a solid 20:36.57, good for 21st place.  Lady Bobcats Mary Zimmerman (45th) and Rachel Myrick (69th) ran times of 21:57.16 and 24:34.70 respectively.

 

Baumer's third place finish resulted in his being named to the 10-man NCCAA DI All-Amrican Team.

The Bobcats and Lady Bobcats return to action on Saturday, November 22nd, when they compete in the  NAIA National Championship in Vancouver, WA.
