The 2019-2020 NAIA DII Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Preseason Top 25 Poll was released this morning, and College of the Ozarks’ Lady Bobcats are ranked in the No. 3 position.
The poll is voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences, Association of Independent Institutions and Unaffiliated Groups. The Top 25 is determined by a points system based on how each voter ranks the best teams. A team receives 30 points for each first-place vote, 29 for second place and so on through the list.
Last year’s impressive regular-season performance (29-3), followed by a strong showing in the 2019 NAIA DII Women’s Basketball National Championship, landed the Lady Cats (31-4 overall) in the number three slot behind National Champion Concordia University (Neb.) and Runner Up Southeastern (Fla.). Filling out the Top 5 are No. 4 Indiana Tech and No. 5 Dordt (Iowa). A full listing of the Top 25 is available on the NAIA’s website.
Adding to the excitement of this release, the Lady Bobcats will open their season in a big way this weekend by hosting the No. 1 and No. 2 teams, as well as No. 12 ranked Sterling College (Kan.), in the Lady Bobcat Classic. The tournament will open on Friday evening, October 25, at 5:30 p.m., with Concordia facing Sterling, followed by the Lady Bobcats vs. Southeastern at 7:30 p.m. The tournament will conclude on Saturday, October 26, at 1:00 with Friday’s two losing teams playing one another, and a 3:00 p.m. game featuring the two winning teams. All games will be played at the Keeter Gymnasium on the College’s campus, with admission of $5 for adults and $3 for students K-HS.
Best wishes to our Lady Bobcats for a fantastic season!
