College of the Ozarks men’s and women’s cross country teams travelled to Lawrence, Kansas on Saturday to compete in the Haskell Invitational.

The Bobcats placed 1st in a field of eight, setting a program record with a team time of 2:19:42.58 in the 8K.

Bobcat Samuel Baumer celebrated his birthday by placing first overall with a 27:02.85 finish after pulling away from a pack of competitors and teammate Garrett Pierce at the four-mile mark.    On the closing stretch, Pierce was able to leave behind a large pack of opponents to finish second overall at 27:22.61.

David Byrd (6th) and Wesley Moore (8th) finished within the top 10 at 28:17.34 and 28:21.62 respectively.  A late push by Noah Rutledge propelled him past seven competitors for a 14th place finish at 28:40.32.

One other notable Bobcat finisher, Adin Hiebsch, finished in 17th place at 28:58.90 for an all-time personal best.

The Lady Bobcats, competing in a 5K event, had an amazing day of their own.  The women’s team finished 2nd overall in a field of seven with a team time of 1:41:52.36.

Abigayle Money led all Lady Cats finishing in 3rd place posting a time of 19:39.72.  Teammates Janelle Staal (9th) and Hannah Duncan (10th) rounded out the top 10, finishing 20:27.45 and 20:29.26 respectively.

Only one competitor managed to wedge their way into the Lady Bobcat pack as Adeline Holder (12th) and Bethany Marteney (13th) did a solid job helping pace their teammates with finishes of 20:36.63 and 20:39.30 respectively.

The men’s and women’s cross country teams return to action at the NAIA Mid-States Classic in Winfield, Kansas on Saturday, October 26th.
