College of the Ozarks Lady Bobcats volleyball completed Day One of the two-day A.I.I. Tri-Match, featuring games with Crowley’s Ridge College (Ark.) and Haskell Indian Nations University (Kan.).
Friday afternoon opened up with Haskell University defeating Crowley’s Ridge College in three closely-played sets, 28-26, 25-22, and 25-16.
College of the Ozarks faced Crowley’s Ridge in the 5:00 p.m. game, where the Lady Bobcats swept the Lady Pioneers, 25-10, 25-11, and 25-19, to pick up their 20th win of the season. The Cats were led by Kayli Grant (15 kills, 2 aces), Ryley Thixton (2 aces), Kaylan Smith (2 blocks), Rielly Dobbs (32 assists), and Haley Stallings (14 digs). Dobbs, Spears, and Grant posted impressive hitting percentages in the match. Dobbs put down 9 kills with no errors in 11 attempts (.643), Spears tallied 12 kills with no errors in 19 attempts (.632), and Grant recorded 15 kills with 2 errors in 22 attempts (.591). The Lady Cats hit .371 as a team, compared to .042 for the Lady Pioneers.
In the final game of the evening, the Lady Cats soundly defeated the Haskell Indians in three quick sets, 25-7, 25-7, and 25-13. Grant was once again a key component in the victory, posting a team-leading 10 kills and 5 blocks. Stallings scooped 23 digs and aced 2 serves, and Dobbs dished 33 assists. As a team, the Lady Cats recorded a stellar .413 hitting percentage against -.091 by Haskell.
College of the Ozarks, now 21-5, will face the Indians at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, following up with a match against Crowley’s Ridge at 1:00 p.m. to close out the weekend event.
