College of the Ozarks Lady Bobcats volleyball opened their season on Thursday evening by collecting two three-set wins in day one of the Silver Dollar City Tournament held at College of the Ozarks.
The Lady Bobcats defeated Hannibal-LaGrange, 25-11, 25-17, 25-19, in their first match of the evening and followed up with a victory over Culver-Stockton College, 25-13, 25-17, 25-21.
In their first match, the Lady Bobcats were led by seniors Kayli Grant and Alex Spears, who posted 12 kills apiece. Grant and junior Kaylee Larimer each blocked four shots. Last year’s NAIA Honorable Mention All-American Rielly Dobbs ireturned to the court in great form and dished 32 assists, while Haley Stallings snagged 15 digs.
Against Culver-Stockton, Spears once again took the lead in kills with 16, as Grant posted two aces and four blocks. Dobbs contributed 36 assists, and Ryley Thixton grabbed 16 digs for the Cats.
In other tournament action on Thursday, Evangel University also picked up two wins, defeating Hannibal-LaGrange in three straight sets and downing Southwestern Assemblies of God (SAGU) in four close sets. Bellevue University (Neb.) went 1-1 on the day, as they defeated Culver-Stockton in three straight sets and then fell to SAGU in four.
The Lady Bobcats will take the court at 11 a.m. on Friday against a tough SAGU squad and close out the tourney against rival Evangel University at 1 p.m. in the Keeter Gymnasium.
