College of the Ozarks cross country is up and running! Both the men’s and women’s teams open their 2018 season at the SBU Bearcat Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, September 1.
The race will be held at the Bolivar City Municipal Golf Course and will feature a 5K race at 8:30 a.m. for the women and an opening season 4+ mile race for the men beginning at 9 a.m.
The men’s team will return Sam Baumer, David Byrd, Sam Scaggs, and Shane York, while adding newcomers Mason Apperson, Mucyo Bangerezako, Wesley Moore, and Garret Pierce. This year will be one of rebuilding for the men, having lost a few members of last year’s team due to graduation and personal circumstances. However, once the newcomers adjust to the increase from 5K to 8K racing, the Bobcats are confident they will compete well.
The ladies return Hannah Duncan, Bethany Edgar, Adeline Holder, Bethany Marteney, and Naomi Murrell, adding Rachel Bagg, Aspyn Britt, Alyssa Goth, and Mary Zimmerman to their squad. While the ladies’ team will certainly miss their lead runner, graduate Torri Holder, they are excited for the talent the freshman are bringing to the course.
Both teams have invested a great deal of work in preparation this preseason and have set some high goals, which include winning their conference and hopefully qualifying for national competition.
Best wishes to the Bobcat and Lady Bobcat runners on Saturday!
