College of the Ozarks men’s and women’s cross country teams traveled to Bolivar, Mo. to open their season on Saturday, Sept. 1, in the SBU Bearcat Invitational.  The early-season race took place on the Bolivar City Municipal Golf Course, with a women’s 5K and a men’s 7K.

Both CofO teams saw two of their newcomers lead the way in the season opener—Rachel Bagg for the women, a freshman from Kimberling City, and Garrett Pierce, a freshman from Sandpoint, Idaho, for the men.

The women’s race featured 75 runners, and CofO finished eighth out of nine teams competing.  Rachel Bagg finished 41st overall with a time of 21:38.03.  Rounding out the Top Five Lady Cats on the day were Adeline Holder (22:16.86), Beth Marteney (22:23.26), Hannah Duncan (22:25.87), and Aspyn Britt (23:01.52).

There were 111 men competing on Saturday, and the Bobcats’ team finished ninth.  Garrett Pierce led the Bobcats posting a 40th place finish overall with a time of 24:32.28.  He was followed by Sam Baumer (24:38.26), Shane York (26:47.59), Wesley Moore (27:18.13), and David Byrd (27:35.59).

The Bobcats will hit the trails for practice the next two weeks before competing in the Missouri Southern Stampede in Joplin on Saturday, September 15th.
