Lady Bobcat Volleyball Splits in Bellevue

Lady Bobcat volleyball headed north this weekend to play in the Bellevue University Labor Day Classic and split their matches, 2-2.  Friday found the Lady Cats battling in both games but coming away with a 3-1 loss in each, while Saturday saw them capture 3-0 wins in both.

The Lady Bobcats’ first matchup was at 9 a.m. on Friday versus College of St. Mary (Neb.), where CofO started slow with an opening-set loss at 14-25.  The Lady Bobcats came back to take set two, 25-18, but fell 16-25 in the third.  The Cats battled in the fourth, but St. Mary came out on top, 21-25, to take the match.  Stat leaders: Kayli Grant-10 kills and 5 blocks, Rielly Dobbs-31 assists, Haley Stallings-16 digs.

CofO played Friday’s second match at 3 p.m. against Lawrence Technological Institute (Mich.).  While they played closely in each game, they were unable to capture the win, falling in four sets, 21-25, 30-28, 20-25, 19-25.  Stat leaders featured:  Alex Spears-13 kills, Rielly Dobbs-36 assists and 4 blocks, Haley Stallings-26 digs, Kaley Grant-5 aces.  Also of note, Spears posted a double-double with 13 kills and 14 digs, as did Ryley Thixton with 11 kills and 15 digs.

The Lady Bobcats returned to the court on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. to sweep Baker University (Kan.) in three sets, 25-20, 25-22, 25-19.  Stat leaders: Kaylee Larimer-4 blocks, Rielly Dobbs-33 assists, Alex Spears-11 kills, Haley Stallings-18 digs.  Dobbs and Spears assisted with the defense, each collecting 10 digs, while Kayli Grant and Maggie Plake provided 3 blocks apiece; Ryley Thixton added 10 kills on the offensive side.

In their final match of the tournament, the Cats faced Indiana University-South Bend and came away with a 25-22, 25-16, and 25-19 victory.  Stat leaders:  Alex Spears-20 kills, Haley Stallings-18 digs, Rielly Dobbs-31 assists, Kayli Grant and Maggie Plake-1 solo block, and single service aces by Grant, Ryley Thixton, and newcomer McKenna Miller. Thixton also recorded double figures in digs with 14.

The Lady Bobcats’ record on the season now stands at 6-3 as they head home to face Williams Baptist University on Labor Day, Sept. 3.  Game time is 5:00 p.m., and it is Faculty & Staff Appreciation Night!
