College of the Ozarks women’s basketball is pleased to announce the First Annual Angela Mallonee Garbee Lady Cat Alumni Game to be held on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. in the Keeter Gymnasium.
The event will reunite former College of the Ozarks women’s basketball players and families, while honoring former Lady Cat player Angela Mallonee Garbee who passed away in May after battling brain cancer.
Angela was a 2001 graduate of College of the Ozarks and a four-year member of the women’s basketball team. She graduated with a Physical Education/Secondary Education degree. Angela began her professional career at Crane High School as a teacher and coach. When her church opened a Christian Ministries Academy, Angela devoted her career to the school as an administrator and coach. She started the athletic programs at the school and coached volleyball and basketball throughout her career.
Admission to the game will be $5 for adults and $3 for children, with all proceeds being donated to the establishment of the Angela Mallonee Garbee Scholarship fund.
“Angela would be thrilled to have the game named in her honor,” stated head coach Becky (Vest) Mullis. “Angela’s family desires the scholarship be used for a graduating College of the Ozarks senior physical education major with coaching aspirations, who demonstrates financial need, strong work ethic, and high character. As a good friend of Angela’s,” continued Mullis, “I know she would be very honored to have her name associated with a scholarship that provides assistance to encourage an aspiring teacher and coach.”
Current Lady Cat team members will be on hand that evening, as well, to sign autographed team pictures for their fans.
Approximately 30 former players have committed thus far to participating in the game. All former CofO Lady Cat players are welcome and invited to participate. More details may be obtained by contacting the College’s Athletic Office at 417-690-2393.
