College of the Ozarks Lady Bobcats volleyball traveled to Fulton, Mo. Monday evening to face Williams Woods, a team who has been receiving votes this season in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll. While the Lady Bobcats picked up a win in set one, Williams Woods proceeded to claim the home court advantage and capture a 3-1 victory.
Set one saw CofO start out strong with an 11-6 lead, but the Owls narrowed the gap to one at 20-19, before the Lady Cats closed out the set with a 25-21 win. In set two, the Owls came out strong with a 9-0 run, thanks in part to four consecutive service aces by Rayleen Rivera, who is ranked NAIA #6 in service aces (31). Although the Lady Cats matched up well the remainder of the game, they could not overcome the early deficit and dropped set 2, 17-25. The third set found both teams well-matched, but a 7-2 run by the Owls put the Cats down 17-22, and CofO lost the third set 19-25. In set four, William Woods scored four unanswered points to open and maintained a 3-to-4 point lead through the first half of the match. Holding a 15-11 lead, the Owls scored four straight points to put the Cats behind by 8. CofO battled back to trade points with WWU throughout the second half of the set, but the Owls came away with a victory (17-25) to take the set and the match. Errors proved to be key in the Cats' loss, as they posted a hitting percentage of only .081 for the game, while WWU hit at .228 percent.
Leading the Lady Cats in the stat chart were: Rielly Dobbs (26 assists), Haley Stallings (18 digs, one ace), Alex Spears (9 kills), and Kayli Grant (6 blocks).
The Lady Cats' record now stands at 14-5, and they will return to their home court this weekend to host the Chick-fil-A tournament.
