Hot Bobcat Bats Drive in 22 Runs to Defeat Dallas Christian

College of the Ozarks baseball played Monday afternoon in their first game of the NCCAA Regional tournament hosted by Southwestern Christian University in Oklahoma City, Okla.  The Cats faced off against Dallas Christian College (Texas) amd collected a 22-5 victory..

Bobcat fans were treated to a lead-off homer by Max Pulley on the first pitch of the game.  Two batters later, Jay Kaufman tagged a homerun to center field.  Ryan Daggs singled to short and then proceeded to steal two bases and home to give the Bobcats an early 3-0 advantage.  Dallas Christian promptly responded with two singles followed by a homerun to tie the score and give Kaufman an early exit from the mound.  Collan Thrasher entered the game and closed out the inning.

After the first inning, it was all Bobcat baseball.  In the second inning, with two outs and two on, Kaufman loaded the bases on a four-pitch walk.  Daggs stepped to the plate and delivered a grand slam to left on the first pitch.  Burtless then walked and Ogletree homered.  Next up was Kolton Giefer, who was ready for his turn. promptly homering to center as C of O tallied seven runs before driving out DCC’s starting pitcher, J.T. Berry.

The Bobcats added 2 in the third, 6 in the fifth, and 4 in the sixth while giving up only two runs over the remaining six innings, both of which came in the bottom of the fifth. 

The Bobcats’ bulging box score featured:  Jay Kaufman (3-4, 3R, 2RBI, HR), Ryan Daggs (3-5, 4R, 8RBI, 2HR, 3SB), Kobe Hammers (2-2, 1R), Joel Ogletree (2-3, 2R, 4RBI, HR, SB), Max Pulley (2-4, 2R, 1RBI, HR), Zach Ford (2-4, 2R, 3SB), and Kolton Giefer (1-2, 2R, 1RBI, HR).

Collan Thrasher picked up the win, allowing just two earned runs on five hits, seven walks, and eleven strikeouts over seven innings pitched.

The Bobcats will return to action tomorrow in the winner’s bracket, facing the No. 1 seeded Southwestern Christian University Eagles.  Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
