College of the Ozarks Lady Bobcat volleyball picked up a big come-from-behind win Thursday evening, defeating the William Woods University Owls, 3-2. It was the Lady Bobcats' first win over the Owls since September of 2015.
The Owls opened up with three quick points, and the Lady Cats briskly responded with five of their own. The lead proceeded to change hands a few times, but CofO held the advantage most of the set. Leading 24-22, the Cats allowed WWU to tie the game at 24 and again at 25 before closing out a 27-25 CofO win on kills by Kaylee Larimer and Kayli Grant.
Sets two and three found the Owls regaining momentum and taking control on the court as they dominated in hitting percentage. CofO posted 16 kills but 20 errors over the two sets, while WWU tallied 25 kills with 8 errors. William Woods took set two, 25-15, and set three, 25-16.
Trailing two sets to one, the Lady Cats shot out to a 5-0 lead, expanding to a 10-1 lead, in set number four. The Owls would pull to within four points at 13-9, but that was the closest they would come, as the Lady Cats picked up a 25-14 victory to tie the match at 2 sets apiece.
In the deciding set, WWU took a 5-1 lead, but the Cats were not to be denied. They answered with a 6-0 run of their own. Leading 7-5, the Lady Bobcats went on a 6-2 run that featured a few WWU attacking errors, kills by Kayli Grant and Alex Spears, and two service aces by Ryley Thixton to increase the Cats’ lead, 13-7. The Lady Cats went on to pick up a 15-10 victory to secure the match.
CofO was led by Rielly Dobbs, who posted a triple-double of 13 kills, 11 digs, and 31 assists; Alex Spears with a double-double of 25 digs and 16 kills; Haley Stallings nabbing 40 digs; Maggie Plake recording 4 blocks; and Ryley Thixton acing 4 serves.
The win improves the Lady Bobcats’ record to 27-5 on the season and extends their winning streak to 13 games.
