Lady Bobcat volleyball closed out their regular season with a 3-1 victory over Evangel University on Monday evening (19-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-21).
The Crusaders and Lady Cats played closely to open set one, staying within 2-3 points of one another until Evangel put together a six-point run that gave them an 18-10 lead. The Crusaders went onto take set one, 25-19.
Set two found the two teams battling closely once again, knotted at 12 apiece. Evangel pulled ahead at 23-19, and it looked as if the Lady Cats would soon be down two sets to none. This time, however, the Lady Cats were not to be denied. They scored six straight points to win the set 25-23.
In set three, the Cats and Crusaders were tied at 12 midway through the set. CofO took their turn to make a run, outscoring Evangel 13-4 to take a two-to-one lead with a 25-16 victory.
Set four opened with the Lady Cats taking an 8-7 lead, and while Evangel made a few runs in continuing plays, they could not gain an advantage. CofO went on to close out the set and match at 25-21.
College the Ozarks was led by Alex Spears, who posted another double-double night, driving 17 kills and collecting 13 digs. Rielly Dobbs handed off 44 assists, Haley Stallings gathered 28 digs and aced three serves, while Kayli Grant and Dobbs each tallied 3 blocks.
The win places the Lady Bobcat record at 28-5 to close the regular season. CofO will await word on their next step in post-season play—most likely NCCAA Regionals in mid-November.
CofO is currently preparing to host the National Christian College Athletic Association DI Women’s Volleyball National Championship on November 29 through December 1.
