Division 1 #20 Lyon Hands Lady Cats First Loss

It was an offensive shootout Tuesday evening in Batesville as the Lady Cats continued their stretch of road games. Two of the top shooting programs in the country squared off with NAIA Div 1 Lyon handing the Lady Cats their first loss of the season.

CofO shot a smoking 69% from the field in the first half, including 75% from three, while Lyon shot 47% from the field and three point line. The Lady Cats held a 45-42 halftime advantage. Four players were in double figures at half, led by Abby Oliver and Kelsie Cleeton with eleven and Madisen Brethower and Cass Johnson with ten. Both team had just four first half turnovers.  Lyon held a five rebound advantage.

Lyon continued their hot shooting in the second half at 48%, while the Lady Cats managed just 36%. CofO had eight second half turnovers while Lyon had just four. CofO went up by as many as seven with 4:44 to play in the third, but Lyon rallied to tie the score at the end of three. Lyon then outscored CofO by eight in the fourth quarter for the final difference.

The Lady Cats had four players in double figures, paced by Cass Johnson with 22 points. Kelsie Cleeton recorded her fifth double double of the year with nineteen points and ten rebounds. Madi Brethower finished with 16 points, and Abby Oliver had 15. Oliver, Cleeton, and Johnson each handed off three assists.

CofO is back at home this weekend for the Coke Classic. The classic will feature Bellevue vs Mid America Christian at 5:30 followed by Cumberland and CofO at 7:30 on Friday evening. Saturday afternoon tipoffs are Mid America Christian and Cumberland at 1 and Bellevue vs CofO at 3.
