The Bobcats and Lady Cats traveled to Nevada, Mo. on Sunday to participate in the Cottey College Invitational.  College of the Ozarks women’s team faced Cottey College’s team, and the C of O men’s team faced off against members of the Haskell Indian Nations University golf team.  The teams played Sunday and Monday at the Par 72 Frank E. Peters Course in Nevada.  The women played from the white tees at 5,800 yards, while the men shot from the blue tees at 6,659 yards.  Conditions were not exceptionally amiable, as the players battled windy weather along with greens that were small and slow due to extensive rainy conditions in the area over recent weeks.

The Lady Bobcats completed two days of play to collect a first-place finish over Cottey College by 39 strokes.

Rachel Hancock of Cottey College took first place in the women’s event at +18, shooting 80/82, while Lady Bobcat Bianca Cunningham collected second place at +20, finishing just two strokes behind Hancock. Cunningham, who has picked up three Top 5 finishes to open her freshman season, shot 83/81 for the two rounds. C of O also captured the next three places. Kate Voss placed third as she completed her second round with a four-stroke improvement over Sunday, shooting 86/82 (+24). Hannah Aherin and Katelyn Swope tied for fourth at +30.  Skylar Kistler finished ninth of 11 players, fighting through an injury to compete for the team.

On the men’s side, Bobcat Caleb Davis posted two rounds in the 70s to finish in first place at +11 for the event (77/78). Davis, a junior, has had a strong start to the season for the Cats, posting a sicth place finish against Evangel and a Top 25 in the Crossroads Invitational. His teammate, senior Marcos Devoto, captured second at +12, just one stroke behind, after posting rounds of 77/79.  Haskell’s Layne Braswell and Russell Parker finished at +14 and +15, in third and fourth place respectively.  Stuart Jacobs and Connor Herzberg completed the event at +17, Heath Carmichael at +21, and Ricardo Devoto at +22.   Haskell did not have enough players to field a team, so no team results were recorded.

The Bobcats and Lady Cats will have a short break in action before hosting the C of O Fall Invitational on October 14-15 at Buffalo Ridge Golf Course.
