College of the Ozarks Bobcats celebrated Homecoming 2018 by defeating Randall University (Okla.) on Saturday afternoon by a score of 85-64.
The Bobcats and Saints opened up the first half with a friendly competition, as CofO headed to the locker room at the break with a one-point advantage, 31-30. The Bobcats were plagued by turnovers in the first half, giving up 13 possessions. The Cats shot well, hitting 42.9% of their field goals compared to 31.6% by the Saints.
College of the Ozarks and Randall traded baskets for several minutes to open the first half, as Randall tied the score at 41 with just over 14 minutes to play. It was shortly thereafter that the Bobcats came to life. Three straight Bobcat treys, fired by Ethan Davidson, Brandt Cochran, and Treydon Rackley, put the Cats in great shape, and soon after, the Cats held a 55-46 lead. The Saints tried to nibble away at the lead, but at 58-51, Heath Carmichael singlehandedly scored eight straight points by nabbing a steal, scoring, and then draining two consecutive three pointers to take the Cats' lead to double digits. The Bobcats cruised to victory at 85-64.
The Bobcats hit 8-of-15 three-point shots in the second half and minimized their turnovers to six, to dominate the balance of the game. Overall, the Cats shot 50.9% from the field. CofO also outrebounded the Saints 46-31.
Ethan Davidson led the way for the Bobcats, posting a double-double, scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds. He was joined in double figures by Carmichael (17), Cochran (14), and Rackley (10). Davidson also led the Cats in rebounds with 13. Klay Barton handed off a game leading eight assists, and Carmichael collected 2 steals.
The Bobcats, who are now 2-2 on the season, will head north to Springfield next Tuesday, Nov. 6, to take on the Evangel Crusaders. Game time will be at 7:00 p.m.
