College of the Ozarks women’s basketball finished up the second day at Northern New Mexico College with a 96-39 victory over the Lady Eagles. It was another hot-shooting day for the Lady Cats, who finished the day shooting 54% from the field and 50% from behind the arc.
C of O jumped out to a quick start with a 23-6 lead after one quarter. NNMC had more success from the field in the second quarter, but they were still outscored 18-10 for a 41-16 halftime score. C of O shot 50% from the field in the first half to just 26% for the Lady Eagles. The Lady Cats were 7-17 from three for 41% and NNMC did not connect from deep in the half. Cass Johnson had 17 first-half points and Ashley Forrest had 11.
C of O shot a blistering 59% from the field and from three in the second half. NNMC shot 27% from the field and 14% from three in the half. The Lady Cats outscored the Lady Eagles 29-17 in the third and 26-6 in the fourth to claim the victory. C of O won the rebounding battle 37-19. The Lady Cats forced 11 turnovers and had just six of their own, while dishing out 21 assists.
Cass Johnson led all scorers with 26 points on 8-14 from the three-point line. Ashley Forrest added 14 points off of the bench, and Kelsie Cleeton had 13 points. Cleeton pulled down 7 rebounds and handed out five assists. All C of O players scored in the game and the Lady Cat bench contributed 36 points.
C of O travels to Crowley’s Ridge College on Tuesday for a 5:00 PM tip, before finishing the regular season at home.
