College of the Ozarks baseball was defeated by #13 Oklahoma Wesleyan on Wednesday, 13-7.

The Eagles jumped out on top in the first inning scoring two runs on two hits against C of O starting pitcher Bryce Burtless.  In the bottom of the frame, the Bobcats struck right back using a pair of sacrifice bunts by Kyle Abrahamson (2-4, run) and Kole Kelley (1-4, run, 2 RBI) to get a three-run rally started.  The C of O rally included a single by Jay Kaufman (2-5, run, double) and a triple by Ryan Daggs (3-5, 3 runs, 3 RBI, double, triple, HR).

Oklahoma Wesleyan third baseman John Lantigua led-off the third inning with a solo shot to help the Eagles score three more runs.  Again, the Bobcats were able to answer right back scoring two runs in the bottom of the inning by way of a Ryan Daggs two-run shot to deep right center to tie the game at 5-5.

Unfortunately, the fifth inning started off like the third on a solo shot by OKWU.  A subsequent single and ground-rule double helped the Eagles tack-on another run to go up 7-5.  After a mound visit, Bryce Burtless settled down to escape further damage, aided by a tremendous diving stab by shortstop Brent Shinkle and an infield pop-out.  Ryan Daggs doubled in the bottom of the fifth and would later score to trim the Eagle lead to 7-6.

Each team would be held scoreless in the sixth inning, which ended Bobcat starter Bryce Burtless’ day and put him on the hook for the loss.  Then, the OKWU offense exploded scoring six runs in the top of the seventh.  A spectacular grab and throw by the Eagle hot-corner dashed Ryan Daggs cycle hopes in the bottom of the inning.  While C of O did scratch another run in the bottom of the ninth, it would not be enough as the Eagles win 13-7.

The Bobcats will return to action Friday (March 22) at Ecclesia College (Ark.) at 3 PM.
