College of the Ozarks Bobcat baseball fell to the Lyon College Scots on Tuesday afternoon, 14-4. The Scots were ranked No. 15 in the latest NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll.
The Scots put the first runs of the game on the board in the bottom of the first inning with a 3-run homer by Kyle West, his fifth of the season. The Bobcats responded by scoring two runs in the top of the second on a leadoff double by freshman Ryan Daggs, a walk to Kyle Giefer, singles by Westin Gann and Max Pulley, and a wild pitch.
The pitchers then settled in and held their opponents scoreless the next two innings, but in the bottom of the fourth, the Scots struck again, scoring three runs on four hits and one Bobcat error. They added another on back-to-back doubles in the fifth to take a 7-2 advantage.
Bryce Burtless reached on a walk with one out in the top of the sixth, and crossed the plate when Lincoln Rasmussen drove a two-run homer over the left field fence on the first pitch of his at bat, closing the gap to three runs. Lyon College, however, wasn’t finished for the day. They tallied five runs in the bottom of the sixth and added two in the bottom of the eighth, while holding the Cats scoreless, for a 14-4 victory. The win takes the Scots’ record to 36-16, while the loss places the Bobcats’ record at 23-27.
