After splitting a doubleheader the night before, the College of the Ozarks Bobcats took the field for a second twin bill with the Owls of William Woods University on Saturday, April 20th. The Bobcats put up a good fight but came up just short, losing game one, 7-2, and game two, 5-2.
The Bobcats led 2-1 headed into the bottom of the fifth inning of game one, but two three-run innings by the Owls resulted in a WWU victory. the Bobcats acquired a total of six hits to nine by the Owls. Leading the way for C of O was senior outfielder Kole Kelley, who went 2 for 3 at the plate. Max Pulley, Kyle Abrahamson, Ryan Daggs, and Bryce Burtless all gathered one hit, with Daggs tallying the Bobcats only RBI. Junior southpaw Kyle Giefer got the start for the Bobcats before being relieved after 5 solid innings of work. He gave up 4 earned runs in 22 at bats, allowing seven hits on three strikeouts.
In the second game of the doubleheader, C of O scored two runs in the top of the second, and the Owls responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame. The game remained tied until the bottom of the fifth, when the Owls put up another 3-spot to take a 5-2 lead. The Bobcats were unable to score in the final two innings. Senior right-hander Jay Kaufman pitched five innings for the Bobcats, giving up seven hits. He struck out four batters and allowed two walks in 21 at bats. Freshman infielder Brent Shinkle and sophomore catcher Lincoln Rasmussen led the way at the plate, as both contributed two hits. Kelley and Abrahamson added a hit apiece to tally six total hits for the Cats. Rasmussen provided the lone RBI for the Bobcats.
The Bobcats will continue their season on Tuesday, as they head back on the road to play Lyon College in Batesville, Arkansas.
