College of the Ozarks Lady Bobcats hosted the First Annual Angela Mallonee Garbee Alumni Game on Saturday, October 13th.

A great crowd was in attendance for the event, including many family members of the game’s honoree, former Lady Bobcat Angela Mallonee Garbee, community members, and 30 former Lady Bobcats and their families.

The purpose of the game was to raise funds for a CofO scholarship in honor of Angela Mallonee Garbee. Angela was a member of the Lady Bobcats alongside Coach (Vest) Mullis for a season, and the two became good friends.  This past May, Angela passed away after battling brain cancer.  The scholarship is planned to be awarded annually to a CofO graduating senior majoring in physical education, with an interest in coaching, who exhibits financial need, a strong work ethic, and high character.

“Following her graduation from CofO,” stated Coach Mullis, “Angela taught and coached at Crane High School.  Later in her professional career, Angela became and administrator at Christian Ministries Academy, a Christian school started by her church.  Angela began the basketball and volleyball programs at the school and coached the teams.  She coached with the same passion she had for life, emphasizing hard work, competitiveness, and character.  Most importantly, Angela lived out those traits and brought numerous people to know the Lord.  Her faithfulness to her Savior was demonstrated in how she interacted with others—boldly inviting them to church and telling them how the Lord had blessed her life, even in the midst of her battle with brain cancer.”

The event was a huge success in many ways.  It was a special evening for Angela’s parents, husband, children, sister, extended family, and friends, as Angela was honored through the event and scholarship.  The evening provided a great time of re-acquaintance, fun, and competition for participants, many of whom, it is rumored, hit the hardwood in advance to spruce up their game.  Lady Bobcat fans also thoroughly enjoyed the chance to see the former standouts on the court once again, support a great cause, and meet the 2018-2019 Lady Bobcat team members, all of whom were on hand for a meet-and-greet prior to the game and introduced to the crowd during half-time.

All proceeds from the game, which totaled $2,800, will be donated to the establishment of the Angela Mallonee Garbee Scholarship.

A special thank you goes out to all who participated in this event – on the floor and in the stands! If you weren’t in attendance, you missed a great night.  We look forward to seeing you next year.

P.S.  If you missed the event but would like to contribute to the scholarship fund, please make your check payable to "College of the Ozarks" with the note "Angela Mallonee Garbee Scholarship Fund" on the memo line, and mail to College of the Ozarks Athletics, Att.
