College of the Ozarks’ Lady Bobcat basketball team secured a 66-57 win over NAIA Division I John Brown University on Monday evening. The JBU Golden Eagles entered the game with a 5-0 record.
The Lady Cats started off the evening slowly, finding themselves with an 11-0 deficit, as they struggled to make a basket. With 4:26 left to play in the first quarter, College of the Ozarks went on a 13-5 run, to trail by only three points at 16-13.
In the second quarter, the Lady Cats were dominant on defense, as they held JBU to a meager four points, while scoring 16 of their own. College of the Ozarks headed to the locker room at halftime with a 27-20 lead, having shot 26.3%.
The third quarter was back and forth for both teams, as they matched each other basket for basket. CofO pulled ahead in the quarter, outscoring JBU by three points, to improve their lead to 54-44.
JBU edged the Cats in scoring during the fourth quarter, scoring 13 points to the Lady Cats’ 12, as College of the Ozarks collected a 66-57 victory.
Leading the Lady Cats was Cass Johnson with 18 points. Kelsie Cleeton, who was one point shy of posting a double-double, finished with 9 points, and led the game with 13 rebounds, and 8 assists. Abby Oliver also had a solid game, scoring 10 points.
The Lady Eagles were led by Baily Cameron, who tallied 18 points and pulled down 8 rebounds. Also making a significant contribution for JBU was Jordan Martin, who recorded 13 points.
Monday’s win places the Lady Bobcats’ record at 8-1 on the season. The Lady Cats will be on the road the rest of the semester. Their month-long road trip will begin this weekend, as they head to Tennessee to face Fisk University and Welch College.
