Following a three-game homestand, the Lady Cats headed back on the road for a game against Lincoln Christian University in Lincoln, Illinois.
The Red Lions came out hot, shooting 53% from the field in the first quarter. Turnovers plagued them, and C of O capitalized on nine miscues to take a 28-17 lead after one quarter.
C of O cranked up the defense in the second quarter, giving up just nine points on 4-15 shooting, while scoring 24 points of their own. Cass Johnson had 15 first half points to lead all scorers. Madi Brethower had nine first half rebounds. C of O had just three first half turnovers and LCU turned the ball the over twelve times. The Lady Cats shot 46% from the field and 47% from three, while LCU shot 40% and 17% respectively. C of O also held a 25-19 rebounding advantage.
C of O dominated the second half, outscoring the Red Lions 41-16. Five Lady Cat players scored in double figures, led by Cass Johnson’s 23. Kelsie Cleeton added 15 points and 9 rebounds. Abby Oliver, Madi Brethower, and Michelle Gabani all had eleven points. Brethower pulled down a game high ten rebounds, for a double-double. Cleeton dished out six assists and had five steals, as did Aleksei Smith.
The Lady Cats shot 46% from the field and 32% from three. LCU finished at 35% from the field and 11% from three. C of O held a 43-34 rebounding advantage, including 19 offensive rebounds. C of O forced 31 LCU turnovers and had just ten of their own.
C of O will travel to Lawrence, Kansas on Saturday (January 26) to face Haskell. Tipoff is 3:00 PM , followed by C of O men at 5 PM.
