Two-sport athlete and NCCAA Cross Country All-American, Janvier Irakoze, punched his ticked to the NCCAA Track Nationals over the weekend during the Lincoln University Invitational. Irokoze’s time of 4:09.61 in the 1500m run qualified him for the National meet and placed him 12th overall at Lincoln.
Brevin Bales also competed in the 1500 m and turned in a time of 4:34.42.
In other events for the men, Micah Bemenderfer, Cody Damlo, and Brevin Bales competed in the 100-meter dash and turned in times of 12:07, 12:17, and 12:25 respectively. Bemenderfer and Kellem also ran the 200-meter dash with times of 24.32 and 24.71, along with teammate Caleb Bingham who recorded a time of 26.16. Briar Kellem finished 15th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.58. Irakoze also finished in 14th place in the 800m with a time of 2:05.69. Cody Damlo finished in 9th place in the 110m hurdles to round out the men’s track events. In the field events, Matt Thomas logged another solid meet finishing third in discus with a throw of 46.76m, sixth in Shot Put with a distance of 13.52m, and 10th in Javelin with a throw of 45.41m. Micah Bemenderfer recorded an 18th place finish in Javelin with a distance of 26.44m.
On the women’s side, Naomi Foskett recorded a time of 2:59,85 in the 800m. In the women’s 1500m run, Janelle Staal completed a sixth-place finish with a time of 5:11.45, while teammates Lauren Cowden and Naomi Foskett finshed with times of 5:20.30 (12th Place) and 6:03.44 (27th Place) respectively. In the women’s field events, Hannah Andrews finished ninth in the Shot Put with a throw of 9.87m, and 14th in the Discus with a distance of 29.05m.
The Bobcats and Lady Cats will next compete at the Pittsburg State Invitational on April 23 as their final qualification chance and tune-up before NCCAA Nationals.
