Bobcats Overpower Royals with Three-Point Barrage

College of the Ozarks men’s basketball hosted Ecclesia (Ark.) on Tuesday evening.  The Bobcats would use hot shooting, including 18 made three-pointers to blowout the Royals, 116-85.

 

C of O started the game on an 8-0 run, capped by an Andrew Mitchell three-pointer.  Mitchell would finish the game with 11 points including three treys.  Midway through the half, the Bobcats would take a 25-11 lead and force an Ecclesia timeout.

 

The timeout didn’t cool down the Bobcats one bit, as Brandt Cochran found Treydon Rackley coming off a screen for a three-pointer from the right wing.  Rackley finished a perfect 3 for 3 from downtown.  Just a few possessions later, Treydon would use a pro-hop to get into the lane and swish a tear drop.  In all, Rackley would score 17 points on the evening.

 

Near the end of the half, College of the Ozarks would go on a 14-3 run started by a Brandt Cochran three-pointer.  Cochran would also finish the half with a very deep three-pointer, part of his 15 first-half points and five boards.  By the end of the game, Cochran would record a double-double, with team highs in points and rebounds at 26 and 10 respectively. 

 

At the half, C of O led the Royals, 59-31.  College of the Ozarks shot a red-hot 21 for 37 (56.8%) from the field, including 8 for 15 (53.3%) from downtown.  Ecclesia countered at 12 for 31 (38.7%) from field goal range.  The Bobcats also forced 12 Royal turnovers.

 

To start the second half, the Bobcats could have just sent out Klay Barton and been fine.  Barton went on a 16-2 run against the Royals, including four three-pointers.  The outburst would give C of O a 35-point lead, 75-40.  Barton would finish the game with 20 points on 7 for 11 shooting, dish three assists and swipe three steals.

 

At the 11-minute mark, Trent McBride would take a Barton post-entry up for a baby hook to push the Bobcat score over the century mark, 101-65.  McBride was yet another Bobcat to score in double-figures with 17 points on the evening.

 

College of the Ozarks would complete the victory, 116-85, on a scalding 44 for 74 (59.5%) from the field, including 18 for 32 (56.3%) from distance.  On the evening, Ecclesia shot 32 for 72 (44.4%), with just 5 makes on 18 (27.8%) attempts from three-point land.  C of O won the battle of the boards, 42-32.  The Bobcats tallied 24 assists in the game.

With the win, the Bobcats finish the regular season at 18-11.
