Ayden Stone sets up for defense.
#21 -- Ayden Stone

After losing on the first day of the Fairfield Inn & Suites Bruin Classic at Bellevue, C of O men’s basketball was eager to get back to work on Monday evening against Midland University (Texas).  The Bobcats defeated the Midland Warriors, 105-95.

“I am proud of how we bounced back tonight after a tough loss last night.  We played with more confidence tonight,” stated Head Coach Steve Shepherd.

C of O wasted no time, jumping out to a seven-point lead going into halftime, 51-44, largely due to some terrific post-play from Freshman Ayden Stone.  Stone set a career high with 31 points, on 13 for 16 shooting and grabbed a game high nine rebounds.

While it wasn’t his best night scoring, logging an atypical seven points, it was the pace set by Senior Brandt Cochran that set the tone.  Drawing much of the attention of the Warrior defense, Cochran chose to facilitate by putting numerous passes on-the-money to set up teammates, charting a career high in assists.

“I am especially proud of Brandt Cochran with his 16 assists.  He made everyone around him better tonight.  Overall, it was great team effort,” Coach Shepherd commented.

Of course, to rack up assists, teammates must make buckets.  On this evening, that was no problem.  Klay Barton started the second half off right with a deep three-pointer.  Barton would tally a career high 22 points, on 8 of 10 shooting including 6 of 7 from behind-the-arc.

Treydon Rackley would join the action, scoring 15 points on 6 of 8 shooting including 3 for 5 from downtown.  One other Bobcat double-digit scorer, Freshman Trent McBride, added 12 points and four rebounds.

Although Midland shot the ball well, they were no match for the net-burning Bobcats as C of O never hit a dry spell in this game.  For the evening, the Bobcats shot a scorching 41 for 66 (62.1%) from the field including 12 for 24 (50%) from three-point land.
