College of the Ozarks Lady Bobcats improved their 2018 season record to 15-5 on Friday evening, as they defeated Oklahoma Wesleyan University three sets to one.
In the final match of Day One in the Chick-fil-A Classic hosted by College of the Ozarks, the Lady Bobcats faced off against the OKWU Lady Eagles. It was the first and only game of the day for both teams.
CofO quickly found themselves down 3-10 to open set one. While they made up ground, pulling to within five points at 18-23, they could not manage to further close the gap, losing 18-25.
Set two saw the Lady Bobcats regroup and take a 5-1 lead, which they stretched to 17-9, before closing out the set with a 25-15 victory.
In set three, the Lady Cats held a 10-6 edge before OKWU posted a six-point run to put the Bobcats down 10-12. The Cats tied it up at 12 and again at 15 before taking a 19-16 lead. The Lady Eagles battled back to put pressure on the Cats, but CofO pulled out a 25-23 win to lead 2-1.
Set four found the two teams matching up well. After being tied at six, the Cats took a 13-8 lead, before the two teams found themselves knotted up at 16 and again at 22. The Lady Bobcats closed out the set with kills by Ryley Thixton, Alex Spears, and Kayli Grant to capture a 25-22 win and claim the match.
While there were some amazing rallies throughout the match, neither team played their best. OKWU posted 44 kills with 34 errors in 190 attempts (.053), and the Lady Bobcats tallied 44 kills and 33 errors in 187 attempts for a .059 hitting percentage.
Leading the Lady Bobcats in the stat charts were: Grant and Spears with 10 kills apiece, Haley Stallings nabbed 21 digs, Grant recorded 6 blocks, and Rielly Dobbs aced two serves while also collecting a double-double with 34 assists and 10 digs. Of note, Kaylan Smith posted the best hitting percentage of the game with a .286 (6 kills, 2 errors, 14 attempts). Spears also sported a double-double on the night, driving 10 kills and picking up 17 digs. Grant just missed her own double-double, adding 9 digs to her 10 kills.
The Lady Bobcats return to the court bright and early on Saturday for Day Two of the Chick-fil-A Classic. CofO will take on Tabor College at 9:00 a.m., followed by University of Saint Mary at 11:00 a.m.
