College of the Ozarks Lady Bobcat volleyball went 4-0 on the weekend to improve their 2018 season record to 11-3.
The Lady Bobcats participated in the Evangel University tournament played at The Courts in Springfield, opening up with a match against Lyon College (Ark.) on Friday evening. The Lady Cats had a slow start, allowing Lyon to capture the first set 24-26, but CofO settled in and took the next three sets 25-19, 25-21, and 25-17. The Lady Bobcats were led by Rielly Dobbs and Ryley Thixton (9 kills apiece), Dobbs (32 assists), and Haley Stallings (23 digs). Senior Kayli Grant provided 6 block assists and Dobbs added 5.
Immediately following their defeat of the Scots, the Lady Bobcats faced off against Judson College from Elgin, Ill. CofO won in three straight sets, 25-16, 25-20, 25-13. The Lady Cats tallied 37 kills and posted a hitting percentage of .325, while Judson struggled with errors, tallying 28 kills with 21 errors for a .079 percentage. College of the Ozarks stat leaders for the game featured: Grant (10 kills), Dobbs (29 assists), and Stallings (6 service aces and 10 digs). Grant and Kaylee Larimer each added two blocks.
Returning to the court Saturday at noon, College of the Ozarks took on the Tabor College (Kan.) Bluejays, who entered the tournament with a 5-2 record. Tabor played the Lady Bobcats close in the first match, but fell 18-25. The Bluejays rebounded to collect a 25-23 victory, as the Lady Cats struggled, posting 12 kills with 7 errors in their 39 attacks (.128). Ozarks’ lapse in offense was not long-lived, returning with a strong offense that featured 14 kills with no errors and resulted in a 25-10 win. The last set saw the two teams battle to the finish, with the Lady Bobcats closing out the match in a 25-23 victory. Alex Spears led CofO with 14 kills, Dobbs put up 38 assists and 15 digs, Stallings nabbed 18 digs and aced 5 serves, and Grant led with 5 of the Cats’ 15 blocks.
In their final match of the day, College of the Ozarks matched up against Williams Baptist University (Ark.), whom they swept at home on Labor Day. The Lady Bobcats repeated their performance, taking the match in three consecutive sets, 25-8, 25-16, 25-18. For the game, CofO posted a .301 attacking percentage, tallying 45 kills with 14 errors in 103 attacks, compared to .100 for WBU. The Lady Cats also aced eight serves, led by Stallings and newcomer McKenna Miller with 3 apiece. Grant recorded a game-leading 15 kills, Dobbs had 37 assists, Kaylan Smith posted 3 block assists, and Spears collected 19 digs alongside 10 kills.
The Lady Bobcats will continue their stretch of road games on Tuesday, when they head to Stephens College (Columbia, Mo.) to face Columbia College at 5:00 p.m. and Stephens College at 7:00 p.m.
