College of the Ozarks’ Bobcat Baseball fell, 5-1, on Wednesday to Southwestern Christian University (SCU) in the NCCAA Central Regional tournament in Oklahoma City, Okla.
After scoring 22 runs on Monday versus Dallas Christian and 13 runs on Tuesday against SCU, the Bobcat bats took a break from the action on Wednesday. Facing the Eagles' Kyle Johnston , the Bobcats were able to scrape together only one run on three hits, as Johnston (6-3) went on to pitch a complete-game victory.
Southwestern scored two runs in the bottom of the second, and one in the third, sixth and seventh innings on a total of nine hits, five walks, and one Bobcat error. C of O's Bryce Burtless suffered the loss. Burtless pitched eight innings, and worked his way out of several jams, as SCU stranded nine runners on base.
Max Pulley drove in the Bobcats' solo run in the top of the eighth inning with a sacrifice fly, as he went 1-for-2 at the plate, drawing one walk. Kobe Hammers (1-3, 1R) and Lincoln Rasmussen (1-3) produced the Cats' two remaining hits.
Both No. 2 seed C of O and No. 1 seed SCU have one loss in the tournament. They will play for a third consecutive day, with the winner of Thursday's game claiming the NCCAA Central Region Championship. The final game will take place 10:00 a.m. in Oklahoma City, Okla.
