Lady Cats Split Pair as Road Stretch Continues

C of O vs University of Saint Mary – Wednesday, November 13

Leavenworth KS – The Lady Cats traveled to Leavenworth, Kansas to face the Spires of the University of Saint Mary as part of a stretch of six consecutive road games.

The Spires put up the first six points of the game with two three-point baskets before a Susie Moran jump shot put the Lady Cats on the board. After a minute of defensive stops, Susie Moran put up another bucket and the Lady Cats trailed 4-6. Logan Jones drained a pair of jumpers and with 4:55 left in the first quarter, the Lady Cats trailed 9-11. A Susie Moran bucket tied the score, but after a 5-0 run by the home team, the Lady Cats trailed 11-16. Logan Jones connected on a pair of free throws, and Moran sank a pair of buckets in the paint to close out the scoring. The Lady Cats trailed the Spires17-20 at the first break.

Abbey Linville opened the second quarter scoring with a three and a Keara Mattingley bucket cut the deficit to 22-23. After a Spires bucket, the Lady Cats unleashed and went on a 14-0 run. Buckets from Savannah Ketchum, Blythe Benefield, and Logan Jones along with a pair of Moran free throws gave the Lady Cats a 38-28 lead. Susie would score three more points to close out the second quarter and the Lady Cats took a 41-31 lead into the intermission.

Looking to hold onto their commanding lead and keep the momentum, the Lady Cats kicked off the second half with a Taylor Rush three and a Susie Moran layup. After a traditional three-point play from Blythe Benefield, the Lady Cats led 51-31. With no sign of slowing down, Logan Jones nailed two jump shots and Keara Mattingley added a bucket to bump the score to 57-36. Two more points from Susie Moran were followed by a three-point play from Logan Jones. The Lady Cats continued to dominate throughout the third quarter, holding onto a 25-point advantage at the quarter break.

After a scoreless 90 seconds, Taylor Rush nailed a three and Susie Moran added three more points to give the Lady Cats a 72-45 lead with 5:30 left in the game. Allyssa Joyner notched her first points of the game and an Abbey Linville three kept the Lady Cats rolling. With 2:01 left, Savannah Ketchum made hit a pair of free throws that wrap up the Lady Cat scoring and seal the 79-56 win.

Susie Moran put up an impressive day, posting 27 points and 16 rebounds to secure a double-double. Logan Jones followed in scoring with 19 points. Abbey Linville led the team with 4 assists.

C of O vs John Brown University – Saturday, November 16

Siloam Springs, AR – After a commanding victory in Kansas, the Lady Cats headed south to open Sooner Athletic Conference play facing the Golden Eagles of John Brown University.

A jump shot from Logan Jones followed by a deep three put the Lady Cats on the board first and gave the Lady Cats the early 5-2 lead. JBU put together a run and after another Logan Jones bucket and a Susie Moran jump shot, the Lady Cats trailed 9-13. The Golden Eagles would make two free throws and at the end of the first, the Lady Cats trailed 9-15.

The Golden Eagles scored four points before Allyssa Joyner answered with a jumper to break the ice. Keara Mattingley drained a jumper, and Logan Jones hit a three to cut the Lady Cat deficit to 16-20. Keara Mattingley and Avery Arnold teamed up for buckets, and after a Taylor Rush three, the Lady Cats were within one, trailing 23-24. The teams continued to go back-and-forth, and buckets from Susie Moran and Abbey Linville gave the Lady Cats a brief lead, before JBU took a 27-31 lead at the end of the half.

Looking to regain the lead, a Taylor Rush three was the first Lady Cat bucket of the second half. Susie Moran scored, and Taylor Rush hit another three, but the Lady Cats couldn’t seem to stop the Golden Eagles’ offense. Another Susie Moran jump shot put the score at 37-40. A Logan Jones bucket and a Keara Mattingley free throw. Concluded the Lady Cat scoring, while JBU had put together a solid run to take a commanding 40-52 lead going into the final frame.

A Golden Eagles three-pointer out of the gate increased the Lady Cat deficit to 15 points before Keara Mattingley drained a jumper and Susie Moran hit a free throw cut the gap. An Avery Arnold three cut the deficit to 46-57. After a Mattingley bucket, Logan Jones scored and the Lady Cats were within reach at 50-59, with 5:01 left. Mattingley added another bucket, and the Golden Eagles took a timeout. An Avery Arnold jumper, followed by a three from Abbey Linville put the Lady Cats within six points. With one minute to go, Susie Moran nailed a mid-range jumper, and the Lady Cats were battling. With time winding down, the Lady Cats were forced to foul, and JBU sealed the win from the charity stripe, 59-68.

Logan Jones led the offense with 14 points. Susie Moran followed with 11 points and recorded another double-double with 13 rebounds. Keara Mattingley also posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Susie Moran and Abbey Linville both recorded 3 assists.

The Lady Cats will complete their road stretch on Monday, November 18 in Oklahoma City against the Stars of Oklahoma City University.
