C of O vs Langton University – Friday, November 8
Langston, OK – The Lady Cats traveled to Langston University as part of a weekend road trip, hoping to find some momentum going into their last two regular season matches.
Bri Linehan started the scoring in set one with a kill. Brooklyn Crawford also recorded a kill, and the Lady Cats had a small lead early on. A Christa Duffel kill was the beginning of a 10-0 run, of which the last 7 points came from kills by Bailey Chamberlain, Christa Duffel, and Anna Howe. Now up 16-5, The Lady Cats did not let the Lions have any hope of a comeback, as two more Bailey Chamberlain kills and a couple Lion errors put the Lady Cats up 20-7. Kills by Abby Chadwell and Bri Linehan put an end to the onslaught, as the Lady Cats won the set 25-9.
The Lady Cats were the first to score in set two, but the Lions had the early lead as Bailey Chamberlain and Emma Godwin kills kept the Lady Cats close, 4-6. The Lady Cats scored three straight thanks to a Brooklyn Crawford kill, an Anna Howe service ace, and a Kamryn Link kill. Kills by Christa Duffel and Jocee Pettyjohn helped bump the lead to 14-11 before the Lady Cats gave up four unanswered points. Bri Linehan recorded a kill to keep the set tied 15-15 before the Lions went on a scoring streak. The Lady Cats were in a 16-20 hole, looking to fight their way back into the set. They did just that with five straight points, highlighted by a Kamryn Link kill and a Jocee Pettyjohn service ace. Tied 21-21, the Lady Cats scored four unanswered points to win the set 25-21.
The Lions scored first in set three, but the teams exchanged points back and forth to find themselves tied 4-4, with kills from Bri Linehan and Jocee Pettyjohn, as well as a service ace from Mica Chadwell, providing the scoring for the Lady Cats. A kill from Brooklyn Crawford put the Lady Cats up 8-5, and after a few Lions points, a Sophie Morris kill kept the Lady Cats up by one. An Anna Howe service ace and a Kamryn Link kill had the Lady cats up 11-9. The Lions continued to stick around, and the Lady Cats had a small 16-14 advantage. A Bri Linehan kill and two consecutive Brooklyn Crawford kills extended the lead to 20-14. Brooklyn Crawford put down a kill, and while the Lions tried to fight back, Christa Duffel slammed down two kills and Bri Linehan recorded a kill to bump the score to 24-18. A Lions attack error sealed the deal as the Lady Cats secured the sweep with a set 3 win, 25-18.
Christa Duffel and Bri Linehan led the team in kills, each with 9. Brooklyn Crawford followed with 8 kills. Kamryn Link provided almost all the assists for the team with 29. Mica Chadwell led the team with 8 digs, and Emma Godwin and Brooklyn Crawford both followed with 7 digs.
C of O vs Central Christian College – Saturday, November 9
McPherson, KS – After a sweep of the Langston University Lions, the Lady Cats traveled north to Kansas to face off with Central Christian College in their last regular season match.
The Lady Cats fell behind early, giving up four straight points before getting on the board. After a Bailey Chamberlain kill, the Lady Cats trailed 4-6. A Brooklyn Crawford kill kept the Lady Cats close, and another Crawford kill followed by a Tigers error knotted the score, 10-10. Yet another Crawford kill gave the Lady Cats the lead, but the Tigers answered with three straight points. Three consecutive from the Lady Cats put them ahead 15-13. After two more Lions points, Christa Duffel posted a kill and Kamryn Link followed with a service ace to regain the lead. A Bailey Chamberlain kill and an Emma Godwin ace put the Lady Cats up 20-17, but the Lions fought it back to a 20-20 tie. Bri Linehan recorded two kills, and a block from Kamryn Link and Emma Godwin took it to set point. The Lady Cats would win the next point and the set, 25-22.
After an exchange of points, thanks to kills from Abby Chadwell and Kamryn Link, the Lady Cats and Tigers were tied 3-3. The Tigers scored four straight, but Brooklyn Crawford provided some life for the Lady Cats with a kill and a service ace. After another Kamryn Link kill, the Lady Cats were down 7-9. The Lady Cats scored a few more thanks to errors from the Tigers, and another Brooklyn Crawford kill kept the Lady Cats within two,12-14. Crawford and Link each recorded kills, but the Lady Cats couldn’t seem to get back on track. Down 15-20, the Lady Cats scored, but the Tigers added three unanswered points. A Bailey Chamberlain kill put the score to 17-23, and the Lady Cats had to make a comeback with not a lot of room to work with. Kills from Bri Linehan and Allison Findley inched the Lady Cats closer, and after another Linehan kill, the score was 21-24. Brooklyn Crawford and Kamryn Link both recorded kills to push the score to 23-24, forcing a Tiger timeout. After a block from Crawford and Link tied the set, Link assisted Crawford on a kill to take the 25-24 lead, and the Lady Cats scored again to end the set 26-24 thanks to an impressive 9-1 run.
After a large comeback in set 2, the Lady Cats hoped to continue their momentum and get their second sweep of the weekend. Kills from Brooklyn Crawford, Kamryn Link, and Christa Duffel provided the early scoring for the Lady Cats as they were tied 5-5 to begin. Duffel and Link each added another kill, and Bailey Chamberlain and Bri Linehan joined in on the fun with kills to go up 10-8. After a small run bey the Tigers scored, Allison Findley provided a kill, and Jocee Pettyjohn threw in a pair of aces to cap a 4-0 run and bump the score to15-12. Another Lady Cat run was highlighted by an Anna Howe service ace and three Brooklyn Crawford kills, increasing their lead to 22-14. Bailey Chamberlain joined in for two kills, and at match point, the Lady Cats put an end to their dominant weekend with a 25-15 set three win.
Brooklyn Crawford led the team with 14 kills, and Kamryn Link followed with 7. Link also provided 27 assists, with Mica Chadwell providing 5. Mica Chadwell led the team with 17 digs, while Jocee Pettyjohn, Emma Godwin, and Kamryn Link all provided 5.
The Lady Cats will travel to Fort Worth, Texas to face Texas Wesleyan University in the first round of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament on Tuesday, November 12 at 7:00 PM.
