St. Louis, MO - After third place finishes from the Lady Cats and the Bobcats at the Haskell Invitational last weekend, the cross-country teams traveled to St. Louis to compete in the Mikayla Sherrill Fall Classic, hosted by University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy.
The Lady Cats put together a season-best 1:39:18 total time to secure a first place win out of seven teams in the meet. The Lady Cats put three runners in the top five, with Senior Rebecca Loya (18:51.9) taking second place, Sophomore Keena Goze (19:23.3) taking fourth place, and Senior Trinity Sadosky (19:40.3) taking fifth place. Senior Sarah Alferink finished in ninth place with a time of 20:30.9. Freshman Emilie Zylstra finished in 20:51.9, and Freshman Tia Bethards finished in 21:28.5, a season best for her. Junior Gracie Gatton (21:49.4) and Sophomore Gracie Vestal (22:22.4) followed. Freshman Aryssa Speights posted a time of 23:50.4.
The Bobcats finished second in their field of five teams, falling behind only Division 2 Maryville University. Junior Tanner Bailey led the pack, finishing in fourth place with a time of 26:02.1 . Freshman Jack Lawson (28:03.8) finished in twelfth place. Juniors Drew Rose (28:49.7), Eric Burns (29:19.0, season-best), and Alex Frizzell (29:22.0, season-best) followed. Sophomore Caleb Fewin finished in 29:52.2. Freshmen Brady Rose (31:01.4) and Cooper Miller (31:58.8) both put up season-best times.
The Cross Country teams will have a couple weeks to recover and prepare for the Sooner Athletic Conference meet, which will take place in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on Saturday, November 9.
