Point Lookout, MO - Back in action after facing the Valor of Evangel University on Wednesday, the College of the Ozarks Lady Bobcats welcomed the Tigers of Central Christian College to Keeter Gymnasium.
The Lady Cats opened the set one scoring, but the Tigers quickly responded. The teams traded points as kills by Bailey Chamberlain and Brooklyn Crawford kept the advantage on the side of the Lady Cats. The Tigers continued to battle but the Lady Cat attack gradually began to provide some space. Kills by Abby Chadwell, and Grace Hancock were followed by a Bri Linehan kill and the Tigers took a timeout, trailing 13-7. Scoring went back and forth as the Lady Cats continued to answer the challenges of the Tigers. Kills by Christa Duffel and Brooklyn Crawford were combined with a Tiger error forcing another Central Christian timeout. With the Lady Cats leading 18-11, the Tigers were determined to battle, but the Lady Cats had other plans. Continuing to apply pressure, the Lady Cats built a 21-12 lead, and they were looking to close out the opening set. A kill by Grace Hancock and a service ace by Anna Howe brought up set point. The Tigers were not ready to concede, and they scored three straight points before an error gave the set one win to the Lady Cats, 25-17.
The Tigers put up the first point of set two but the Lady Cats answered with a Kamryn Link kill and an ace by Anna Howe. Bailey Chamberlain followed with a block and the score was quickly 3-1. Central Christian, determined to battle back, soon tied the score 5-5 and things were tight in the early going. The Tigers soon took the lead and the Lady Cats needed to put together a run. A pair of Grace Hancock kills and a Bailey Chamberlain block cut the gap to 10-9 and a Tiger error evened the score. A Kamryn Link ace gave the Lady Cats the lead and Central Christian took a timeout to regroup. The Tigers scored the first four points out of the huddle before the Lady Cats could break the string. Points went back and forth as the Tigers continued to hold off the Lady Cat attack. An Abby Chadwell kill, gave the Lady Cats a spark but the Tigers responded with three unanswered points to take a 20-16 lead and force a Lady Cat timeout. A block by Brooklyn Crawford and Abby Chadwell cut into the deficit and a Tiger error made it 21-18, Tigers. A Bri Linehan kill narrowed the gap but the Tigers continued to attack. After two Lady Cat points, the Tigers closed out the set on a 4-0 run for the 25-20 win.
Set three opened with the Tigers putting the first point on the board. Bailey Chamberlain answered with a kill and Bri Linehan teamed up with Chamberlain for a block to give the Lady Cats an early lead. Looking to build some momentum, both teams continued to attack, but neither team could build a lead as points went back and forth. Kills by Linehan and Abby Chadwell kept the Lady Cats in contention, but the Tigers soon owned an 8-6 lead. The teams continued to trade points and neither team could develop a rhythm. The Tigers held a 12-10 lead before a pair of Bri Linehan kills and an error by the visitors gave the Lady Cats a 13-12 advantage. The Tigers took a timeout, and a Brooklyn Crawford block bumped the score to 14-12. The momentum was beginning to build as Christa Duffel and Brooklyn Crawford slammed down a pair of kills and Bri Linehan pounded a pair of kills of her own. A Mica Chadwell ace built a 19-12 lead and another Duffel kill forced a Tiger timeout. Another Mica Chadwell ace greeted the Tigers out of the huddle and a Tiger error bumped the score to 22-12. The Tigers scored to break the string and scored three consecutive points to cut into the lead. A Linehan block and an Abby Chadwell kill were followed by a Tiger error and the Lady Cats took set three, 25-15.
Set four opened with a Central Christian point, but a Bri Linehan kill provided the answer. Bailey Chamberlain provided a block, and the Lady Cats took the early lead. A Tiger error and a pair of Katie Hilton aces grew the lead to 5-1 before another Tiger error added to the run. Katie Hilton delivered her third ace in the series and another Tiger error followed before Central Christian was able to break the string. The momentum was clearly on the side of the Lady Cats, and they continued to attack. Another point each way and the Tigers took a timeout, trailing 12-4. The teams traded points out of the huddle and the Tigers were looking to battle back. The Lady Cats continued to hold off the Tiger challenges and soon led 19-10, forcing another Tiger timeout. Four consecutive Tiger errors out of the huddle and a pair of Maddie Michel aces gave the Lady Cats the 25-10 set win and the match win 3-1.
Bri Linehan led the offense with 14 kills. Kamryn Link handed out 18 assists, while Maddie Michel added 15. Mica Chadwell led the defensive effort with 14 digs and Kamryn Link chipped in 10.
