C of O vs Stephens College – Saturday, August 31
The Lady Cats opened day two of the Lady Cat Fall Classic facing the Stars of Stephens College and they were hoping to ride the momentum of the big win the night before.
Stephens jumped out to an early 6-1 lead and the Cats had work to do early on. A Bailey Chamberlain kill got the offense going but Stephens continued to apply pressure. Kills by Bri Linehan and Grace Hancock cut the gap to 8-5 and the Lady Cats were looking to put together a run. Stephens, however, put together a 3-0 run of their own and forced a Lady Cat timeout. A Grace Hancock kill out of the huddle broke the string and an ace off the serve of Emma Godwin built some momentum for the Lady Cats. Continuing to chip away at the lead, The Lady Cats soon had the score knotted at 16, forcing a Stephens timeout. A Linehan kill out of the huddle gave the Lady Cats their first lead, but Stephens quickly responded. The teams began trading points and the Lady Cats were looking for another run. A block returned the lead to the Lady Cats and a well-placed drop by Abby Chadwell bumped the score to 21-19. A Brooklyn Crawford kill forced another Stars timeout and the Lady Cats were looking to close out the set. The Lady Cats scored four of the next five points and took set one, 25-20.
A Kamryn Link ace and kills by Chamberlain and Linehan gave the Lady Cats an early 5-0 lead in set two. A Kamryn Link kill forced a Stars timeout with the Lady Cats holding a 6-1 advantage. The Lady Cats continued to apply pressure and Stephens was struggling to find an answer. Building a 10-1 lead, the Lady Cats were in control early. Bailey Chamberlain, Bri Linehan, and Grace Hancock teamed up for kills and a Maddie Michel ace bumped the lead to 16-5. Brooklyn Crawford and Emma McIntire added a pair of kills and Stephens took another timeout. Stephens found some life out of the huddle and began trying to dig out of the hole. A Stars run cut the gap to 19-12 before an Abby Chadwell kill broke the string. An Emma Godwin kill, a Linehan block, and a combination of Stars errors brought up set point and another Linehan kill sealed the 25-16 win.
Looking for the sweep, the Lady Cats were hoping to keep the momentum rolling. Stephens, however, had different plans and jumped out to an early 5-0 lead. Kills by Grace Hancock, Emma McIntire, and Bri Linehan helped the Lady Cats get back into contention and an Abby Chadwell kill cut the gap to 9-8. A Stars' error evened the score, but the Lady Cats were unable to take the lead. An Abby Chadwell kill and a Stars' error kept the score even but the Lady Cats were looking for a run. The Stars continued to answer each Lady Cat challenge, but a Bailey Chamberlain kill and an Anna Howe ace built some momentum. Bri Linehan slammed one home and the Lady Cats had their first lead, 16-15. Kills by Brooklyn Crawford and Grace Hancock bumped the score to 21-16 and Stephens was on the ropes. Not ready to concede, the Stars continued to battle. Holding a 23-20 lead, the Lady Cats took a timeout to slow the Stars’ attack. A Brooklyn Crawford kill was followed by an Abby Chadwell slam and the Lady Cats took the set 25-21, and the match 3-0.
Bri Linehan led the offense with 11 kills and Abby Chadwell added nine. Kamryn Link and Maddie Michel each dished out 18 assists, and Mica Chadwell pulled out 25 digs in the win.
C of O vs Sterling College – Saturday, August 31
Facing a talented Sterling squad, the Lady Cats were going to need to keep the momentum rolling from their last two matches.
Bri Linehan started the attack with a pair of kills and the Lady Cats were on the board. The Warriors quickly responded, and the teams began trading jabs. Points went back and forth to a 9-8 C of O lead before a 6-0 run made it 15-8, Lady Cats. Sterling ended the run and put one together of their own to cut the gap and tie the score at 20. The Lady Cats answered the challenge and back to back to back kills by Abby Chadwell wrapped up the 25-22 set one win.
Set two began with the Lady Cats jumping out to a quick 5-0 lead with Bri Linehan pounding home a couple of kills to lead the charge. Sterling was not to be outdone and began to battle back. The Lady Cats continued to attack, held the momentum, and answered each challenge of the Warriors. Warrior errors and a kill by Brooklyn Crawford bumped the lead to 11-5 and the Lady Cats seemed to be in control early. Sterling continued to keep pace and refused to go away. The teams traded points back and forth, but the Lady Cats maintained the spread to a 17-11 advantage. Sterling continued to battle and a 3-0 run cut into the Lady Cat lead. The Lady Cats responded but things began to get interesting down the stretch. A Kamryn Link ace bumped the score to 21-16 and an Abby Chadwell kill inched the Lady Cats closer to the needed 25-point total. A Sterling timeout was met with a Grace Hancock kill and Bri Linehan slammed one home to finish the 25-21 win.
With elimination staring them in the face, the Warriors were set to come out swinging. Sterling scored the opening point, but a Bril Linehan kill was the prompt Lady Cat response. The set was evenly contested and the teams trade points in the early going. A Brooklyn Crawford kill provided a little space for the Lady Cats, but it was short lived. A 3-0 Sterling run tied the score at seven before an Abby Chadwell kill broke the string. Sterling took their first lead, 10-9, and for the first time in the match, the momentum had turned. A Sterling error was followed by a Bri Linehan kill and the Lady Cats bounced up, 12-11. The teams continued trading points and intensity grew as the score climbed. Kills by Linehan, Crawford, and Hancock, along with a Warrior error provided some breathing room and the Lady Cats took a 19-14 lead. A long rally resulted in a Lady Cat point and a Bailey Chamberlain kill brought up set point. The Warriors continued to battle but an error finished the set 25-18 and completed the 3-0 sweep for the Lady Cats.
Bri Linehan led the way with 11 kills, Abby Chadwell chipped in 10, and Grace Hancock added nine. Kamryn Link contributed 19 assists and Maddie Michel tossed out 17. Mica Chadwell recorded 26 digs and Kamryn Link picked up 15.
C of O vs Mission University – Saturday, August 31
Looking to close out the weekend on a high note and carry momentum into the opening of Sooner Athletic Conference play, the Lady Cats were set to square off against Mission University.
The Lady Cats wasted little time getting going and took an early 3-0 lead. The Patriots quickly responded, and the battle was on. A Brooklyn Crawford kill gave the Lady Cats a 7-5 lead and kills by Abby Chadwell, Bailey Chamberlain, and Bri Linehan helped maintain a slim advantage. Mission matched the Lady Cat output, and the opening set was tight in the early going. A pair of kills by Grace Hancock and a pair of errors for Mission opened up a 15-11 advantage and gave the Lady Cats a little breathing room. The Patriots took a timeout to regroup and took the next point to break the Lady Cat momentum. The Lady Cats continued to attack however, and a 19-13 lead induced another Patriot timeout. Mission scored the first three points out of the huddle before an Abby Chadwell kill broke the string. The Patriots refused to give in and things were intensifying down the stretch. A Patriot error gave the Lady Cats a 22-17 lead and a Bri Linehan kill inched them closer to the set win. Grace Hancock drove home a kill to bring up set point and Bailey Chamberlain hammered one down for the 25-21 win.
The Lady Cats took an early 6-1 lead in set two before Mission began to battle back. Bailey Chamberlain slammed home a kill to bump the score to 7-3. The teams began trading points and the Lady Cats answered each of the Patriot challenges. A pair of Abby Chadwell kills and a Mission error increased the lead, and a Bri Linehan kill added to the total. Linehan pounded another to the hardwood and Mission needed a timeout trailing 16-7. Kills by Abby Chadwell, Bri Linehan, and Bailey Chamberlain were combined with a Katie Hilton ace to build a 21-8 lead. A pair of Mission errors brought up set point and the Lady Cats were closing in on a 2-0 lead. One final error for the Patriots closed out the 25-11 win and sent the match to the third set.
Looking to continue the trend, the Lady Cats jumped on the board first in set three. Kills by Grace Hancock, Bri Linehan, and Brooklyn Crawford built an early 7-1 advantage, and the Lady Cats were hungry for more. Mission took a timeout to regroup, and the strategy resulted in a quick point for them out of the huddle. The Lady Cats responded quickly and went back to work with a Christa duffel kill. Mission continued to battle, but the Lady Cats applied more pressure. A Bailey Chaberlain block bumped the score to 13-5 and the Lady Cats were once again in control. Abby Chadwell crushed a kill, Kamryn Link delivered an ace, and another Chadwell kill forced a Mission timeout with the score 17-6. Mission came out of the timeout looking to get back in the match and scored the next four points. Kamryn Link dropped one in on the Mission side of the net to break the momentum, but Mission continued to battle. A Bri Linehan kill increased the lead to 19-12, but the teams were trading points. Christa Duffel slammed one home and a Mission error moved the Lady Cats closer to the win. Allison Findley delivered an ace and a Sophie Morris kill brought up match point. A Mission error concluded the 25-15 win and the 3-0 match victory.
Bri Linehan led the attack with 15 kills and Abby Chadwell added 10. Kamryn Link dished out 34 assists, and Mica Chadwell recorded 24 digs in the win.
The Lady Cats will return to action next Friday, September 6 in their inaugural match in the Sooner Athletic Conference against Oklahoma City University. That match will be in Keeter Gymnasium at 7 PM.
