Point Lookout, MO - In an exciting showdown at the NCCAA regional contest held on Wednesday at Coach Bob Smith Field, the College of the Ozarks Bobcats beat out Mission University with a close final score of 3-2.
The Bobcats' starting pitcher, Brody Baumann, delivered an efficient performance, pitching eight innings and giving up only two runs while striking out seven. His efforts on the mound set a solid foundation for the team. The game remained scoreless until the crucial eighth inning when the Bobcats rallied to take the lead. Trey Riley, Craig Busse, and Ty Rush collectively scored the game-changing three runs that shifted the momentum entirely in favor of the Bobcats. Craig Busse started the offense with a single up the middle and Charlie Parker followed with a single. Hunter Lewis drove in the first run to put the Bobcats on the board and a Trey Riley single drove in the next two runs to make the score 3-0. Mission answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning with a Carter Veinage two run homer and the stage was set for an exciting finish.
Lewis and Riley's RBI's were key factors but, the game saw additional key performances, including multiple hits by Charlie Parker and a flawless ninth inning by closer George Reynolds, who secured the win in a 3-up, 3-down fashion. Reynolds secured the save and the Bobcats
Despite the Vienhage heroics in the bottom of the eighth, the Bobcats were able to hold on to secure the 3-2 victory. The win propels the Bobcats into the Regional Championship game as they will travel to Southwestern Christian University to face the Eagles on Friday, May 9.
