Lady Cats Prevail in Thrilling Comeback Against #18 Wayland Baptist

In an exciting Sooner Athletic Conference showdown, the College of the Ozarks Lady Cats secured a nail-biting victory over NAIA #18 ranked Wayland Baptist University's Flying Queens with a final score of 75-72 on Monday, at Keeter Gym. 

The game began with the Flying Queens taking an early lead, ending the first period ahead at 23-20. Despite falling behind, the Lady Cats, spurred by standout performances from Susanna Moran and Blythe Benefield, kept the game within reach. By halftime, Wayland Baptist had extended their lead to 44-32. However, the Lady Cats staged an impressive comeback in the second half, driven by critical three-pointers and defensive plays. Moran, with a game-high 23 points and 17 rebounds, played a pivotal role in shifting the momentum in favor of the Lady Cats. 

The fourth period saw the Lady Cats clay their way back into the game with Taylor Rush and Benefield cutting through the Flying Queens' defenses. The climax of the game came in the final seconds when Abbey Linville secured the victory for the Lady Cats with two crucial free throws, making the score 75-72. 

"This win reflects our team's resilience and ability to stay focused under pressure," stated Lady Cats Coach, Becky, Mullis, reflecting on the comeback. "Our team showed great character, and this win is a solid example of their hard work and determination." 

With this win, the Lady Cats now hold a record of 17-9 overall and 15-7 in the conference. They are set to face UNT-Dallas in an away game in Dallas, Texas, on Thursday.
 
The Lady Cats continue to work toward a hosting opportunity for the opening round of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament. The opening round game will be player on February 27.
