College of the Ozarks Bobcats picked up a win on Friday afternoon in the Haskell A.I.I. Classic, downing Wilberforce University, 73-58.
The Bobcats and Bulldogs battled throughout the first half, with the lead changing throughout. C of O closed out the half with a three-point edge at 35-32. In the second half, the Bobcats put up 38 points against 26 by Wilberforce to capture the victory and improve their record to 7-7 on the season.
The Bulldogs held a 31-28 advantage on the boards and turned the ball over eleven times compared to 18 by the Bobcats. However, the Bobcats held a significant advantage on offense.
The Bobcats went 26-54 (48.1%) from the field and 6-15 (40%) from three-point land. C of O also went to the free-throw line 22 times and made 15 shots (68.2%). Wilberforce made 22 field goals in their 69 attempts (31.9%) and hit just 21% of their three-point shots (4-19). The Bulldogs were 10 of 18 from the charity stripe (55.6%).
Klay Barton led the Bobcats with 22 points, going 8-for-12 from the field. He also added four rebounds and five assists. Brandt Cochran was the only other Bobcat in double figures, scoring 15 points and dishing six assists. Ayden Stone hauled down seven rebounds, swiped a steal and handed off two assists. All eight Bobcat players on the court scored in the game.
The Bobcats will be back in action on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., as they take on Northern New Mexico College in Day 2 of the Haskell A.I.I. Classic.
