College of the Ozarks Lady Bobcats collected wins in three of their four matches played this weekend in the St. Louis College of Pharmacy tournament.
The Lady Bobcats opened up the weekend with a big win over conference foe Lincoln College (Ill.), who had defeated C of O in their last two meetings. In Friday’s match, the Lady Cats recorded a 3-1 victory (29-27, 25-16, 30-32, 25-19). Rielly Wallace tallied 58 assists, 11 digs, and 7 kills; Izzy Gibbany scooped 39 digs; Ryley Thixton posted a double-double with 22 kills and 14 digs, and Maggie Plake logged six of the Lady Cats’ 12 solo blocks and added two block assists.
In Friday’s second match, the Lady Cats struggled with hitting errors, recording 39 kills and 25 errors in 159 total attempts. As a result, C of O lost 3-1 to Freed Hardeman (Ky.), posting scores of 19-25, 25-23, 23-25, 18-25. Thixton and Abi Menzies led C of O with 11 kills apiece, Gibbany collected 21 digs, and Wallace dished 37 assists. Thixton added 19 digs and three solo blocks to her stat line.
The Lady Cats made quick work of their first match on Saturday, sweeping the Stephens College Stars (Mo.), 25-22, 25-8, 25-14. As a team, C of O hit the ball well (.330 hitting percentage) compared to a .059 average for the Stars. Thixton put down a match-leading 14 kills, adding 13 digs to her collection. Gibbany hauled in 16 digs, Wallace handed off 32 balls, and Kaylan Smith led all players with three solo blocks and three block assists.
In their final match of the weekend, the Lady Bobcats faced off against the host school in a tight matchup that went down to the wire. C of O picked up the victory over St. Louis College of Pharmacy, 25-20, 19-25, 25-15, 22-25, 15-13. Wallace posted her third triple-double of the season with 10 kills, 42 assists, and 11 digs, while also tagging on six block assists. Thixton, also playing well, recorded her fourth double-double of the weekend, tallying 22 kills and 15 digs. Gibbany snagged a match-leading 30 digs.
The Lady Cats’ success in St. Louis brings their season record to 16-11. They will play their final regular-season home match on Tuesday, October 22, against Lyon College (Ark.). The Lady Bobcats will celebrate their seniors just prior to the start of the 7:00 p.m. game.
