It was an exciting Tuesday night at the Keeter Center Gymnasium on the campus of College of the Ozarks, as the Lady Bobcats won their home opener over Missouri Baptist University, 82-69. In front of an enthusiastic crowd, the Lady Cats took an early lead and never looked back.
In addition to the win, senior forward Brandy Uchtman joined the 1,000 point club in the latter part of the second quarter. Uchtman entered Tuesday’s game with 992 points and ended the evening scoring 14 points to bring her total to 1,006.
Joining Uchtman in double digits for the evening were junior Hannah Wisdom (14), sophomore Lakin Simmerman (13), and newcomer Cassidy Johnson (13). Also making her debut on the home court was Kelsie Cleeton, who posted 10 rebounds and six points. Guard Shelby Roberts led the team with three steals. The Lady Cats shot 41% from the field compared to MBU’s 32% and led by as many as 21 early in the fourth quarter. Head Coach Becky Vest’s freshman garnered some serious court time, averaging about 18 minutes apiece.
Missouri Baptist was led by Jerica Hawkins who doubled up with 20 points and 11 rebounds, accompanied by 3 steals, while Taylor Klingelhoefer contributed 16 points.
The Lady Bobcats (2-1) will head back on the road later this week, as they take on University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma at 6 PM on Friday, November 6th. The team will return to their home court next Tuesday for a 5:30 PM start against Lyon College, followed by a 7:30 PM C of O Bobcats vs. Evangel University men’s game.
