The #6 College of the Ozarks Lady Bobcats suffered their second loss of the season on the road Saturday afternoon at the hands of #9 Morningside College (Iowa), 83-63.
The Lady Cats struggled to get their game going early on, trailing by 17 with 2 minutes remaining in the first quarter. C of O drew to within five points with just under six minutes remaining in the half, but nine unanswered points by Morningside left the Cats down 14 at the half (25-39). The second half showed some improvement by C of O, but the Mustangs continued to hold the advantage by outscoring the Cats 29-22 in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Morningside took their lead to 29 points before C of O responded to close out the game at 83-63.
The Lady Bobcats’ field goal percentage was 37.3% versus Morningside’s at 44.3%, but it was three pointers and free throws that sealed the deal for the Mustangs, as they hit 13 trey’s and were 16-23 from the free throw line compared to C of O’s 7 three-pointers, while going 6-for-13 from the charity stripe.
Morningside’s Madison Braun went 11-for-14 overall while draining 7-of-8 three-pointers and capturing 33 points.
College of the Ozarks’ Kelsie Cleeton continued to lead her team at both ends of the court, posting another double-double with 14 rebounds and 16 points. Also in double digits were Cass Johnson (16 pts.) and Madi Brethower (10 pts.).
The Lady Cats’ record now stands at 10-2. College of the Ozarks will remain on the road, playing against Division I Mid-America Christian of Oklahoma (9-1) on December 8th.
