Lady Cats Win in A Tale of Two Halves

It was the tale of two halves for CofO women today in the second day of the CCC Independent Classic. The Lady Cats came out strong initially and gained a  double digit lead in the first quarter. The 25-16 lead after ten minutes proved to be short lived, as Northern New Mexico scored thirty-one points in the second quarter to take a 47-45 lead into halftime. CofO forced twelve first half turnovers to just five of their own. Rebounds were even at 20.

After regrouping at halftime, the Lady Cats cranked up the defensive pressure. They gave up nine points each quarter, while scoring 28 and 22 respectively. NNM shot 21% from the field including 2-10 from the three point line, and turned the ball over eleven times. CofO out-rebounded NNM by ten in the final two quarters. Ozarks scored 50 points, which made the final score 95-65.

Cass Johnson led five players in double figures with 24 points, eighteen tallied in the second half. She nailed six three point shots on ten attempts. Shelby Roberts hit two threes and finished with fourteen points. Hannah Wisdom had twelve points. Kelsie Cleeton contributed eleven, while Lakin Simmerman had ten. Simmerman just missed another double double with nine rebounds. Johnson had eight and Cleeton finished with seven. Cleeton led with five assists combined with no turnovers in nearly 34 minutes of action.  Wisdom and Maggie McMenamy dished out four assists.

CofO women (18-4) and men will head to Northern New Mexico next weekend for another A.I.I. Classic.
